Awards:

Schools I know I'm applying to:
-Cornell
-Wash U. in stl
-Johns Hopkins
-UVA
-U of Rochester (x2 legacy) (safety)
-Rutgers (safety)

Schools I will most likely apply to:
-UPenn
-Michigan

Schools I'm looking at:
-U Chicago
-Northwestern
-Carnegie Mellon
-Duke
-Boston College

I do not want to go any further west than WUSTL or any further south than Duke.

Am I wrong? It doesn’t seem like your SATI scores add up.

Good chances anyway.

I think your SAT score is off by ten, it should be a 2160. That being said:
-U Chicago-low reach(it depends on your essays)
-Northwestern-high match
-Carnegie Mellon-low match
-Duke-low reach
-Boston College-match
However, I think you should get into most of those:) O, I just saw the other lists, sorry. I would say you get into those too with the exception of maybe Cornell, John Hopkins, and UPenn(low/mid reaches), though I could still see you getting into 1 or 2 of those. Good luck!

yea, my score is 2160. I guess that 780 doesnt mean anything if I cant do basic math.

Also, what do you guys think I have to work on? How are my ECs?
I’m taking the SAT again in october focusing on my essay and my critical reading, so hopefully i can superscore those with my math score.

If you can do better on your second time, your chances will go up:) As far as your ecs, I would say that they are decent for the majority of the schools you are applying to. However, for the three schools I said may be low/mid reaches, you might want to enter or compete in some state/national competitions. If you like science, maybe you could join a science club. I am not sure about your school, but some schools offer science or math teams that you can join that compete at regional and state levels. Other than that though, I can only suggest that you retake the SATs for your reach schools and maybe take the ACT test to see if you do better on it than your SATs. Good luck!

Thanks. Would anybody else like to help me out?

WUSTL wise, you have the test scores though you can always improve your writing and reading scores. You seem to be math and science oriented.
I would focus on leadership roles including the camp counselor, chess captain and karate instructor. Demographics wise, we get a lot of applicants from New Jersey and New York.
If you haven’t yet, visit campus or do an interview to show your interest. Efforts like those are noted and help. for the other schools, UVA is tough because you’re from out of state but BC, Duke and CMU are fine.

quaj- I would love to visit the campus, but it is just too inconvenient for me to go all the way out there. I believe that the school schedules interviews in January, so I will try to do one. How else could I go about expressing interest?

Another problem is that although our school doesn’t rank, I’m kinda stuck in between a rock and a hard place in that our class is one of the most competitive our school has ever seen. I would place myself at around 12%. Could my class rank seriously hurt me?

bump?
please help

You will probably get into all of them.

ignore soccer’s comment

-U Chicago-low reach
-Northwestern-low reach/ high match
-Carnegie Mellon-match
-Duke- high reach
-Boston College- match
-UVa- high reach (because your out of state)

Really hard to say without rank or knowing where you are in the class if your school doesn’t oficially rank. At schools like yours, much comes down to who else is applying. I would work on the scores.

Thanks, but what about the other schools on my list. I should have organized it differently. Am I allowed to delete this thread and repost?

Good luck
chance back please!

Duke, Penn, and Cornell are the hardest of the group hands down. Duke was 17%, Penn 17%, Cornell 19%. That being said, I think that Cornell would be the best fit, considering you want to go there given its first on your list, and applying ED there is a joke for getting an acceptance when you compare it to Penn or Duke. Cornell ED is fairly easy at 35%+ acceptance.

I personally love Duke (I am going there in the fall so obviously I love it) and would recommend it to any1 who can get in, but if you want a guaranteed acceptance to a good school, Cornell ED is the way to go.

And no way that Cornell and Duke are LOW REACHES and UChicago is a REACH b-c I was accepted to Chi and Duke and WL at Cornell AEM and kno by talking to kids, officers, and the numbers, it is A LOT EASIER to get into Chicago then the other two. But I am sorry, when I was at Chicago the kids were getting gitty b-c they were putting in a new library that had an automated arm where it took the book out of the shelf and brought it to you like a vending machine!!! AND KIDS WERE GETTING EXCITED ABOUT IT LIKE IT WAS THE END OF FINALS!!! They are crazy out there beware!

O yea if you are applying Cornell AEM apply early b-c the acceptance rate regular is 9%, not the 19% that the school publicizes. Cornell has different acceptance rates by major, and Applied Economics and Management is their best so apply early if that is your thing (its their undergraduate business major).
