Where to go to college.... Basically I am a heavy sufferer of post-application regret. I got 9 acceptances, 0 rejections, 3 waitlists. I don't particularly want to go to any of the places I was accepted, as I only visited the ones I was waitlisted at.
Key: ?=haven't heard back about fin aid
C=cheap

My options:

Northeastern ($$)
Fordham ($$)
Marist (? but still low)
TCNJ (C)
Rutgers (C)
Binghamton (? but still low)
Pittsburgh (?)
American ($$)

I just know I could have done better. I could have applied to better places. I could have made smarter decisions and not been so naive about money. I'm pretty bummed because so many people around me (honors/AP kid) are getting into far more prestigious schools, and I know I'm of equal academic strength to them.

Nothing on my list is particularly appealing. I'll probably end up going to TCNJ. Help?
Any opinions based on what you know, what you've heard, cold hard facts, connotative reputation, anything...

Don’t be bummed about the “prestige” of your school. Go to TCNJ or Rutgers. Both are great schools academically and you’ll be saving a boatload of $$$. The two schools are pretty different atmospheres though so think about whether you want to go to a huge state school or a smaller school with a more liberal arts feel.

Where would you rather live? Are you interested in being near NewYork City or DC? Do you want something more rural like Binghamton? Also, don’t totally lose heart, you might get in where you were waitlisted.

i hate people like you , your problem is you want to be like the other kids/ and people like you get to caught up on Rankings of schools, i guess you forgot that most of the successful people in the world didnt go to these top schools

Hate? And people say I have a stick up my ass… I would hardly call any of the schools the OP mentioned “top schools”. Your post is so utterly irrelevant to this thread.

didnt call those schools top schools, i said most successful people dont go to top schools. CC is filled with a bunch of smart ass kids who are overachievers and complain ahh i could have done better

Grammatically speaking, you did. You said “these” schools, an implication (by the unspecified pronoun) that the schools she mentioned were the schools you were talking about.

And more successful people do come from top schools as a percentage of their population than non top schools (though more may come overall from, say, under top 50 schools, more of the population of top 50 schools are successful than those outside the top 50).

I thought Pittsburg was a terrific school and I also know many very bright students that are attending. I also thought the area was great for students wanting a city but who feel NYC is too overwhelming.

Anyways, DC, Pitt, and Boston are great cities; you can’t go wrong with either of those picks. And there is a TON of job opportunites/ internships/ co-ops etc. in those big cities, you’ll be just as qualified as those jerks at Princeton.
Pick a school that has a strong program in what you are interested in. Like philosophy? Go to pitt. Interested in politics? You definately want to be in DC. Do a little bit of research.

to the OP, just try and figure out which 3 schools you like the most, then try an go visit them also if money is an issue wait til you get your aid information

I’m sorry, do you know who I am? I clearly do not care about college rankings (I chose OSU over NYU) and I am most certainly not like most other “kids” either culturally or position in life (I am in a management position at a national market research agency; I’m 19) and if you are familiar with my posts, I am one of - if not THE MOST - antagonistic person on this board when it comes to concerns about colleges.

I’m assuming you’re in-state for the NJ schools. Personally, I think Binghamton is a bit better than TCNJ and a lot better than Rutgers. American, Northeastern, and Fordham are going to be insane amounts of money for the same education that you can get at a any of the really good public schools you’ve gotten into. Pitt and Marist are good choices at decent prices.

I’m in the same situation at similar schools. My matches weren’t matchy enough. I was waitlisted at my top choices. Right now, I have to decide between Binghamton, SUNY New Paltz, Marist, Syracuse, UMD-CP, and Gettysburg. Because of cost, prestige (at least in-state), programs within my major, and proximity to NYC and home (at least in the case of Syracuse) I’ll probably be sending my deposit to Binghamton, all the while hoping and praying that Tulane decides to pull me from the wait list. And if not? I honestly thought Bing was a reach for me and I’m perfectly happy with it.

I hope your selection ends just as well. Have faith in the waitlists. You may be pleasantly surprised.
