Hey
I'm a member of the class of 2011 and I applied to ND as an international student!
I understand what you're going through :( I was on the same boat as you are a year ago.

Yea it's hard being an international student and especially the one who's looking for financial aid! JHU and Penn say on their sites that intl. students shouldn't look for fin. aid if they want to be competitive in the admission process (or something along that line?)

well unfortunately, I think the same principle applies for ND like many other private colleges. I think ND's need aware for intl. students. (You should know, you seem to be interested in many top colleges...)

a quote for ND admissions website

"Financial aid opportunities for first-year international students are limited and at present, there is no funding to assist international transfer students. International students should be prepared to finance, either privately or through a sponsor, the full cost of their Notre Dame education. "

...

"Students wishing to be considered for need-based financial assistance must complete an International Student Certification of Finances along with the CSS International Student Financial Aid Application. Based upon a review of academic qualities, financial need, and availability of scholarship resources, a student may be considered for financial assistance, included a self-help component of a student loan and student employment along with University scholarship assistance. "

Since you are looking for financial aid, I think it'll be tougher for you. However, don't lose hope and give your app your best shot! you never know what'll happen. Be armed with great stats, essays, and recs that'll make it very hard on the adcom to turn you away!

BTW, I know an international student who applied to ND looking for aid and she got in with a really good package.

And ND's amazing! love every minute of my life there and makes it hard to wait until school starts in January.

hopefully this was helpful :)

P.S. I read your chance thread on ND forum before... mind if I ask how'd UChicago went?
