Throughout my college research i've happened upon this site more times than i can count, so i've decided to to ask you guys what you think about my situation.

I was accepted to both SUNY Binghamton and the University of Delaware and at this point it seems my college decision will be between one of the two. Im looking to go to school for a B.S. in Geology and ultimately to go on to receive a M.S. in Marine Geophysics (possibly a phd). I like geology because besides being a very interesting field it would also allow me to go on to possibly work in petroleum extraction.

Currently im trying to choose between going to either Bing. or UDel for my B.S. The fact that the two schools are so different has only made the question of what school to go to even harder to answer. Binghamton on one hand is incredibly cheap $19,000 /year and has a great reputation as a "public ivy". UDel is significantly more expensive at about $30000 (thanks to scholarship) and also has a good academic reputation.

Naturally if given to schools of near-equal caliber Id simply pick the cheaper one for my parents sake, however, when i went to visit Binghamton i was far from impressed. it seemed cold, boring, out of date with not much of a social scene. Although i have yet to visit UDel, i've been assured by friends that it is much nicer and has much more of a social atmosphere. My parents also want me too go to UDel after hearing stories of kids actually becoming clinically depressed at Binghamton. I know life at Bing. isnt THAT bad but i still want to have fun in college and Bing. doesnt seem like it would live up to my expectations.

In short i was wondering what you guys had to say about the two schools, what you liked and didnt like, what you think would best prepare me for grad school, wether one is academically stronger in geology and wether the $11,000 /year difference is worth going to UDel???

-sorry for the rant and thanks in advance, any input is appreciated
