My dream school to transfer to is USC, but I also want to apply to other schools like UCLA and CSULB so I can have options in case I don’t accepted.
However, my counselor told me it isn’t possible to complete all of the GEs and major requirements necessary for UCs, CSUs, AND private universities within 2 years of community college. He told me I have to CHOOSE between completing all the courses to qualify for just UCs and CSUs, or completing all the courses to qualify for just privates.
This sounds very unfair to me. Because I know it is possible to transfer within 2 years and be qualified to apply to UCs, CSUs, and privates simultaneously. Several other students have done it and succeeded. Am I wrong or is my counselor wrong?
Pardon my blunt phrasing but your counselor sounds like an idiot. If you manage to complete the prereqs required for your chosen major at any of the universities and have the minimum unit requirement then you should be able to apply.
Exactly what I thought too! But he just kept telling me how it’s easier to just choose between one or the other without giving me a concrete reason why. It really messed with my mentality and made me feel as if he didn’t believe in me.
I think you have to do the research yourself. Find out the transfer requirements for UCs, CSUs, and privates. Call the colleges to confirm the requirements. Then make sure you fulfill them.
I also want to mention that I’m pursuing an AA-T degree for Studio Arts. This means I must complete the CSU/IGETC plan prior to transfer. How can I make sure I complete that plan as well as USC’s individual requirements? Will I be able to complete it in 2 years?
You need to do the research to find out what each place would require, then map out a plan and see if it is possible. Maybe it is possible to fit everything into only 2 years, or maybe you would need an extra summer term, semester, etc.
