Please help!!! Does this mean I'm waitlisted/rejected???

My counselor told me that he got a postcard from Duke last week saying how this year they have the third highest number applicants, etc. etc. Why would Duke send this if I weren't rejected? OMG this is horrible....:( :( :( Does anyone know if this is why my counselor got this postcard?

Perhaps they saw that your school had an applicant to Duke so they just sent a postcard to show statistics. I'm sure they didn't send it specifically for any subliminal reason like that...

For WashU my counselor also got something like that which he said "didn't say much" and the decisions came out a few days later and I got waitlisted.

I don't see the reason why a college would send a counselor something like that . It sounds like they are trying to soften the blow of the waitlist/rejection. :( :( :(

Honestly, it seems weird to me that Duke would be so "conscientious" as to give your school a sly heads up so that they might console you.

Did your counselor tell you this kind of thing is unusual? It could be standard practice for colleges to provide this sort of info to GCs in order that they might better "counsel" future applicants. In other words, it wouldn't really have much to do with you.

^I really hope it doesn't do much with me at all. It doesn't sound good.

Has anyone else's counselor gotten this?

hey, don't worry..we are all just being paranoid :)
I was wondering that maybe the ppl who got 6:30 emails were rejected...so anyone who got a likely AND a 6:30 notice???? someone to tell ME I'm also paranoid?

While it would seem to drain a large amount of finances unnecessarily, perhaps Duke is doing this to "soften the blow"? I know Vanderbilt was concerned with the effect of their rejection letters on those denied admission.

Really though, I certainly don't believe Duke would expend such massive resources just to "soften the blow". I wouldn't worry too much about it. Form personal experience, I know that Duke is very heavy on advertising. They like their name EVERYWHERE.

After thinking about it, it does seem wierd for Duke to be so concerned about the effects of my rejection, or the fact that it even needs to give me a heads-up. But it just seems that way because that's the only reason I can think of. Plus, my GC looked pretty worried when he said that, as if warning me. Well, just 2 more days!

Yes! Just two more. I wonder if the servers will overload at 6.
