Please help- Dropped from required course

Hi,

I need some help. I was dropped from my Critical Thinking course at my community college. I got a new job and it really ate up all my time and I wasn’t able to get much done outside of work. I’m afraid if I don’t get into a new course I won’t be able to transfer. Does anyone know of any fast track online courses I might be able to take?

Thank you.

In college, you really have to prioritize your classes over working. Consider your class as a job.
But not just the 3 hours per week in class…you are expected to do 2-3 hours of studying/reading/homework per class hour.
So if you take a 3 credit class, you should have 3 hours in the classroom and 3 x (2-3hours) outside = ~10 hours per week per class.
When you say dropped, what do you mean? Were you withdrawn? Did you fail the class?

Can you take a summer course?

Sit yourself down in front of your computer and start going through all the large CA community colleges’ schedules of classes. (San Fran, San Diego, Santa Monica, Mt. Sac, De Anza, etc). You might also try the more rural areas that may have robust online offerings. You need to find an online class that starts this week or next, but other than that, you’re stuck with summer. You can take the class at any campus online, though it’ll take a little work to get your transcript in order. Oh, and do the work, if you are lucky enough to get in. :wink:

@bopper the instructor dropped me.

@ccprofandmomof2 Thanks, I emailed a counselor and she’ll be helping me find a class at another CC on Monday. Hoping for the best :confused:

That’s nice of her (and more than our counselors would do!), but I would recommend you be a bit more proactive over the weekend and try to find a course yourself. If there’s a class that starts on Monday, and you could add it yourself before the class starts, that would be better than waiting. There are some colleges that have 8-week sessions that will start Monday. Unfortunately, each college is on its own schedule, so you’ll have to dig a little.

@ccprofandmomof2 Yeah I’ve been looking a lot… I’ve found a couple. Also emailed the teacher and explained my circumstances because he’s actually able to readmit me to the class until the end of next week

Why did he drop you? Were you not attending, not turning in work etc? I guess I’m wondering what will change if the professor readmits you. Are you ready to focus on academics or will your job still interfere? Simply signing up for a new class and being in the same situation doesn’t seem like it will work out well.

@momtogirls2 I told him ahead of time that I was going to be out of town for a week for training for this new job. He said “No problem, just get the assignments done when you can” And then dropped me a week later. I really don’t need a lecture from anyone, I was simply wondering if anyone had any ideas about which schools might have a fast track course I could get into.

colleges have some requirements to drop students who are not attending to prevent against fraud with Government student loans
