can anyone explain what this IDOC is, and some schools have financial aid deadlines of feb. 1st. Does that mean the tax forms have to be sent to idoc by feb 1st? any comments would be helpful.... thanx

bumpppppppppppppp

hi

I am probably not the best person to explain this but as I understand it:

Each school is different so you need to look on their website. They will state what documents they need and what date. Usually all colleges need the FAFSA and some schools also need the PROFILE (and if your situation warrants it, the Business/Farm Supplement and/or the Non-Custodial Supplement). Some schools also need a copy of your and your parents 2004 tax returns. If the deadline is Feb 1, usually that is the deadline for the FAFSA/PROFILE and they will accept your 2005 tax statements a little later.

IDOC is associated with College Board and colleges use IDOC as a clearinghouse to collect information. For example, you send a copy of your completed 2005 taxes to IDOC and they will make sure the colleges that request this service get a copy of your taxes. Sometimes IDOC is used for other forms. For two of my S's colleges, we sent the Farm Supplement directly to the college but for one college, we are to send the Farm Supplement to IDOC which will forward it to that college.

Complete the Profile by the priority deadline and then shortly thereafter, College Board will contact you regarding which forms to send to IDOC. I believe College Board will send you a cover letter to accompany the material you are to send to them.

Hope that helps. There is actually a good description on the College Board site.

thanx for all your help fresnomom...... you cleared alot of things up
