I have received a 32 on my only ACT that I took in September. I got a 1460 w/ an 8,7,8 essay on the SAT. Based on conversions and averages, a 32 seems better than the latter. I was wondering if a 32 would be good enough for my dream schools: Johns Hopkins, Brown, Rice, and UPenn
Can I ED to one of these schools with a 32 and still get seriously considered? In October I am taking SAT 2 for Chem, Bio, and Math Level 2 instead of the regular SAT.
If you are not hooked, you should get a 33 or higher for these schools. If you ace those subject tests (meaning 750+) than you could probably slide by with a 32.
You should apply early to whichever school you like anyway. Don’t let a lower-than-ideal test score discourage you from applying. Yes, it’s not the highest, but consider that 25% of JHU’s students, for example, have an ACT score of 32 or lower. You could be one of them
@orange8monkey but how many of those were athletes, URMs, or legacy/development cases?
OP, a 32 is good but for the caliber of school to which you’re applying, I would try to get to a 33 or (preferably) a 34
@Emsmom1 I’m sure there’s plenty of athletes, URMs, etc. in that category, but doesn’t mean all of them are in that category, and doesn’t mean you shouldn’t apply.
Thank you all for the feedback! The next ACT is in late October, and the scores release Nov. 14. Would it also be acceptable to ED and then send in the new ACT scores late?
@FieldCrest3 I’m not sure, but I think if you decide to send your score in after the deadline, you won’t get a chance to see your scores before it gets sent, so there’s a bit of a risk (double check, of course!)
