ACT Scores....

Feb ACT April ACT

English: 29 29
Math:32 34
Reading:25 24
Science: 31 28

Composite: 29 29

i am thinking of retaking this june or october and want to raise the composite score to 30 or maybe 31. Is it possible?? and how should i really prepare for it???

BTW applying Johns Hopkins for ED

Buy the official ACT study guide and really study it; do the practice tests, timed. If you’re trying for JHU ED, set a goal of 32 or 33, 34 plus if you want some security. Good luck.

everyone basically says that a score of 32-33 is required to apply to JOHNS HOPKINS… we are not talking about harvard, yale or MIT here. And i have other pretty good ECs and Subject test scored.

The middle 50% for JHU last year was 29 -33 so fully 25% of the freshman class is less than or equal to 29. I don’t know who “everyone” is but it is ridiculous to say you need a 32-33 to apply.

Good do-it-yourself exam prep advice from CC’s own Xiggi: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/68210-xiggis-sat-prep-advice.html

This prep strategy works for the ACT as well as the SAT.

That bottom 25% was filled with recruited athletes, legacies, URMs and devolpment cases. Realistically there are few “unhooked” applicants in that quarter. No one says you need a 32 to apply; you can apply with a 22 if you want.

However, if he wants a high likelihood of acceptance, it makes sense to reach for scores of the top 50% of admittees, not the bottom.

With the reading…Honestly just read a lot, I was on vacation the week before the April ACT and read like 5 books. I came back and took the ACT and up my reading significantly. The other ones all i can say is practice!
