Hi! I have a high act score but a low gpa due to an undiagnosed issue that just recently was figured out. My first two years of highschool went pretty poorly but this year(my junior year) I’m doing extremely well and am taking rigorous courses next year! Please help me figure out my chances at a good school.
ACT- 32
GPA-2.9 unweighted
GPA junior year so far: 3.8 unweighted
Do colleges appreciate that I’ve done so well this year and will do well next year? As in, will they try to section out my junior year grades and senior year grades because I had a problem freshman And sophomore year? Thanks for the help!
Yes, they will; I’m sure you’ve heard of the sought-after “upward trend,” in which one continuously improves their grades from Freshman to Senior year. Colleges and universities tend to place significant value to this example of personal initiative, as it demonstrates that you as a student are improving upon such factors as work ethic and commitment to your studies; after all, colleges accept students based on extrapolations relating to the performance of their accepted applicants at their institution, and the last thing they want to see are students struggling towards their Junior and Senior years, years most reflective of how well those students will do in college. As long as you keep the grades high, you should be fine, as the ACT score is already indicative of your abilities as a exemplary student.
