Hello,
Ive been accepted at most of the University of California campuses except Berkely,UCLA and UC Irvine. My major is most likely to be Mechanical Engineering(or some form of engineering ).The 2 colleges I am seriously considering right now are Unversity of California, San Diego and Georgia Institute of Technology.I am a resident of California so the main concern in going to GeorgiaTech is the cost.I am really confused as I do not know if I should give higher importance to the overall public rankings(where UCSD is 2 places above GTech) or the undergraduate engineering rankings(where including both public and privates univs, GTech is 6th and UCSD is 22nd).I would be glad if someone could help me out of this predicament.

I'd go to UCSD in a hearbeat. First and foremost, you'll be saving a ton of money. Second, would you rather live on the beach in SD or in Georgia? I'm a big advocate of going as far away as possible for college, but personally I wouldn't even want to visit georgia, let alone live there for four years.
