Hello,
Ive been accepted at most of the University of California campuses except Berkely,UCLA and UC Irvine. My major is most likely to be Mechanical Engineering(or some form of engineering ).The 2 colleges I am seriously considering right now are Unversity of California, San Diego and Georgia Institute of Technology.I am a resident of California so the main concern in going to GeorgiaTech is the cost.I am really confused as I do not know if I should give higher importance to the overall public rankings(where UCSD is 2 places above GTech) or the undergraduate engineering rankings(where including both public and privates univs, GTech is 6th and UCSD is 22nd).I would be glad if someone could help me out of this predicament.

Do you plan on returning to CA after college to work/make your home? If so, UCSD should be higher on your list, because employers like to recruit locally and it is very unlikely that you will be exposed to CA employers while at Georgia Tech. Also, have you visited Atlanta? It may be different from what you're used to, so you should visit if at all possible before making your final decision. Of course, money is always a concern, but it's nice to be able to decide based on other factors. UCSD's reputation has been rising steadily - they have a couple of Nobel laureates now and are very proud of that.

La Jolla shores? For sureeeee! UCSD is more beautiful, ranked higher (publicly), and not as costly. SO.... georgia... or beach.... hmm... pay more or pay less.... ok just pick ucsd :P hahaha While both are really good schools I just think the fact that ucsd is cheaper... and VERY pretty...is a very attractive factor about the school.

I would go to UCSD. Its just as prestigious for engineering as GTech and it is instate and its close to SD, which is a great city.
