<p>"Success only buys an admission ticket to a more difficult problem."</p>
<p>Assignment: What is your view on the idea that each new success leads to new and more difficult problems? Plan and write an essay in which ( )</p>
<p>Each success in life is inherent to a difficult problem.
This thesis is rather evident in history as the victory over nazi Germany was one of the greatest successes in US history but was also inevitably followed by the cold war. The thesis also becomes apparent in politics: When 8 new states became members of the European Union, people saw this as a success, but weren't aware of the problems that would go with it. Further, when a lot of countries introduced minimal wages in the 90's, initially seen as a great success, unemployment was created.
When the USA and its allies won the second WW in 1945, people from all over the world were relieved by this success. The Americans made an end to the terror the German nazi regime had caused. However, the problem that followed this great success was when the four allies, FRance, the UK, Russia and the USA split Germany up. The iron curtain that was drawn between Russia's and the other allies' parts caused the Cold War to emerge.
Politicians often face this dilemma as well.
When eight new states became members of the European Union, people regarded this as a great achievement in european history. Countries such as Poland, Slovakia and the Tcheque Republic were now part of a union that would help them to develop their democracies and inherently the people's lives. The main problem that came with this was a flood of illegal workers from the new member states coming to middle european countries. This greatly harmed the economy on both sides.
The introduction of minimal wages in a lot of countries in the 90's is another example taken from politics. It was initially regarded as a big step against the infringement of workers' rights, but it became soon clear that it was also a problem. It was the reason for a wave of unemployment, simply because the employers weren't able to stick to these minimum wages and had to let go of a lot of their employees.
Thus, each success, each achievement creates a problem. The examples from history and politics prove that there's always a downside to a success. We can only lear from these inherent problems and evaluate whether the success is worth the dilemma it might cause.</p>
