Does your country help with college in your country? Are there not any suitable colleges there? Most funding for colleges in the US are earmarked for US residents. There are exceptions but competition for funding is fierce.
@lostaccount yes. but i want to study in the USA. if i retake SAT and get score 1800. i think that michigan state university has rolling addmisions. and i apply to this school after i retake the SAT. have i got any chance? i plan to retake the SAT in May.
University of Alabama would be a good one. They recently expanded their engineering department. Lots of scholarships for your GPA. Even though a state school there are more out of state students. Engineering would offer you an additional $10,000 scholarship.
OP is an international student whose family’s yearly income is $8k. S/he needs a full ride. Domestic students with 1800 SAT scores generally can’t expect full rides to college. I don’t know of any places where an international with those scores can get one. Even if they did, the cost of travel and insurance alone would be ~$8k/year, and there’s no aid that I know of that will cover those costs. OP’s best bet is to pursue an education in their home country.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS
International incoming first time freshmen who meet the December 15 scholarship priority deadline, have a qualifying score on the ACT or SAT (critical reading and math scores only) and have at least a 3.5 cumulative high school GPA will be eligible to compete for merit-based scholarships.
Presidential scholarship if full tuition and then you can receive the engineering department scholarship of $10,000
The cost of attendance at the [Univ. of Alabama]( http://financialaid.ua.edu/cost/) is $39k/year for nonresidents. Even with full tuition and a $10k/year scholarship, this student would need at least $3k to cover direct costs, plus ~$8k for travel and health insurance, and additional money for books and personal expenses. How do you suggest this student’s family cover that ~$13k/year gap?
@austinmshauri I am merely offering this information to the OP. We obviously don’t know the whole story of what the OP’s family is willing to offer the student. Univ of Alabama is a good option for an international student. Since many schools don’t offer internationals financial aid this is one worth considering. This is useful info as the OP is doing research. He already said he is applying to Purdue and Michigan, this is a much more affordable option.
The OP’s Math +CR is only 1250. That is not high enough for full tuition (or even half tuition) scholarship at Alabama. With those scores, OP would only qualify for $4000/yr. http://scholarships.ua.edu/types/out-of-state.html
They make exceptions to get their international quota especially with 98% GPA and two perfect SAT subject tests of 800 each. It’s also holistic review.
@txmom16 I am surprised to hear that Alabama uses a holistic approach for international scholarships. I thought they were purely stats driven. I found Alabama’s page on international scholarships. It says the same thing as the OOS page. OP qualifies for $4000/yr. http://gobama.ua.edu/international/scholarships/
