Please Help Out Another Frustrated, Anxious, and Worried Senior High School Student!

Hello friends. This is another "Chance Me" post. I'm sorry if you're tired of seeing these posts everywhere and find them a complete bore but I would very much appreciate any/all help. Beware, this is a lengthy post and I apologize in advance.

As of right now, I have applied to all of these schools (my applications and writing supplements were all sent a couple of days ago):

Boston University

Cornell University

New York University (NYU)

Pace University

SUNY Binghamton

SUNY Geneseo

SUNY Oswego

SUNY Stony Brook

SUNY University at Albany

SUNY University at Buffalo

Penn State (University Park or Altoona)

Fordham University

St. John's University

CUNYs (Hunter, Baruch, Brooklyn, Queens, and Lehman)

My top five schools (not in any order) that I wish to attend are:

Stony Brook University (THIS IS MY DREAM SCHOOL!)

NYU

Cornell University

SUNY University at Buffalo

Penn State

To give some background information, I go to an early college high school in New York City. Because of this, my school does not offer any AP or Honor classes but rather, offer students to take up to four college classes during their senior year of high school. Some of my stats are:

G.P.A.: 94.23 (unweighted)

Class Rank: 11/106 or in the top 10%

Currently taking/took four college classes (Chem 100, English 120, Math 125, and Math 150)

Extracurriculars: volunteering by delivering home meals, museum internship, apprentice at after-school program, job at a retail store, participant of Jiu-Jitsu

I have asked my English, Chemistry, and Physics teachers for letter of recommendations

My essay is probably the strongest part of my whole application (I talked about the religious and cultural complications within my life)

SAT Superscore: 1790 (I took the SAT three times already and my recent December 2014 SAT scores were the highest)

Highest Critical Reading Score: 570

Highest Math Score: 610

Highest Writing Score Score: 610

Combined Critical Reading + Math: 1180

ACT Composite Score: 26 (I took the ACT once and I don't plan on taking anymore)

English: 27

Math: 28

Reading: 28

Science: 21 (ugh)

Writing: 8

In my opinion, I think my SAT scores are going to be the downfall of my application. I have never been good at standardized testing (then again, who is) and I fear them for my life. Also, because I didn't take any AP or Honor classes, I think my application won't be as strong as other applications in which the students did take AP and Honor classes. Moreover, I didn't take any SAT subject tests so I have no idea what role that will play in my application. I know Cornell requires students to take SAT subjects tests for some of their undergraduate programs so I didn't choose those specific programs. Besides, I know my chances at Cornell, NYU, and Boston University are VERY slim so I won't be holding my breath.

However, I do have a GREAT interest in Stony Brook University. Like I said before, it is my dream college and I have always wanted to attend there since I was in the ninth grade but I'm not sure if I have a chance at even getting in. My horrible SAT scores fall a little short at what they consider the middle 50% value. I just hope to the holy Lord that I get in!

In essence, I would like to know what are my chances at getting into any of these schools. I'm open to any suggestions/questions/comments but please refrain from making fun of me lol. And I am so sO SO for this extended question/post!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ THIS!!! :+)

If you are in state for Stony Brook, I think you have a great chance. You are a strong applicant and yes, your scores will be your downfall. But I’ve seen students with worse scores and GPA get into NYU, and St. John’s, so that should ease you a little bit :)

@CaliCash Thank you so much for the reply - it means a lot. And yes, I’m a New York state resident. But yeah, I pretty much knew my SAT score was gonna screw up. Hopefully, college admission officers can look past that.

Moreover, I really do hope to get out of NYC. I’ve been here all my life and I just want to explore and find myself (yeah, I know, cliche but true.) That’s another reason why I want to go to Stony Brook. It’s not that far but far enough.

But anyways, thank you again for taking the time to comment! :+)

An idea for you. If you end up going to a SUNY (and it’s not the one you really want), if you get good grades, transferring is fairly easy/regularly accommodated. So, if you end up at Albany for a year because that’s all you get into (as an example, not implying they are low on your list), you get good grades for a year, you would probably be accepted as a transfer into Stony Brook or Buffalo without too much trouble.

Also, if you go SUNY, visit the campuses, they are all different in terms of layout and accommodations.

Hopefully that helps you get focused on the road ahead.
