The Office of scholarships and student aid has received your free application for federal student aid and/or profile. Before we can determine your eligibility for financial aid, we must have additional information that verifies earlier reported or missing data. Failure to provide this information will delay processing and ultimately affect your eligibility for aid. To begin the process of completing your application, please follow the instructions below.
1. Using My UNC
The additional information requested by our office can be viewed at MyUNC, the University's web-based student portal. My UNC is the University's official location for financial aid notification and is where you wi,ll be expected to monitor your personal financial aid information as needed. Accessing MyUNC via the web requires a personal identification known as an ONYEN(only name you'll ever need). Our records indicate you do not currently have an ONYEN username. To create your username, visit http://onyen.unc.edu and choose "Create on Onyen." Please note: once created, the Office of Scholarships and Student Aid will not have access to your personal username and password. Onyens are only for individual use and it is your responsibility to safely manage your username and password.
After creating an Onyen, and email address, you may access your personal financial aid information by visiting MyUNC. Within MyUNC, select the STUDENT tab and proceed to FINANCIAL AID; then select NOTICE OF INCOMPLETE APPLICATION for specific instructions and documents necessary to complete your application.
2. The importance of monitoring your UNC Email address
The office of scholarships and student Aid will contact you via email for all future correspondence relating to financial aid. Your official UNC email address is ONYEN@email.unc.edu. For example, if your ONYEN is"smith", your email address is Smith@email.unc.edu. To comfirm the email address listed in the university's directory, visit the UNC-CH ONline campus directory (fwd to homepage) and choose "Update Entry" from the menu. To access mail delivered to your official UNC address, please visit http://webmail.unc.edu and login with your Onyen and password. If you are a graduate or professional student, your department or school may issue a department-specific address which may not be accessible through webmail.unc.edu. For instructions on using and accessing department-specific email addresses, please contact your school or department directly.
YOU MUST VISIT THE MYUNC WEBSITE FOR SPECIFIC INSTRUCTIONS AND FOR THE DOCUMENTS NECESSARY TO COMPLETE YOUR APPLICATION.
For technical assistance or with questions pertaining to the campus directory, Onyen, or UNC email address, please contact Information Technology Services at 962-HELP.
For further information or assistance relating to financial aid, please call our office or visit us at 3000 Pettigrew Hall between the hours of 8am and 5pm, Monday-Friday.
