Please HELP!: What are my chances?

Hey guys, could you please provide me with some input. Thanks

SATI: 1300
-660 Math
-640 Verbal

SATII:
-MathIC: 580
-Writing: 620
-US History: 530

9-12th GPA: 3.6
10-12th GPA: 3.8

Class Rank: 28/497

AP Chem
AP Lit
AP Stat
AP Government
Honors Physics
AP Comp Sci A

EC: Worked with several Non-profits in Southeast Asia during summer of 2002. Worked, Lived, Ate, Help with hundreds of poor villagers in the Sveg Reingh Providence. Bulit houses, established the infastructure for commertial farms. Started my own business selling sporting goods over the internet last year; had over half a million of sales. Wrote a business model and raised venture captial all on my own. Internship at Morgan Stanley shadowing a Finacial Advisor(1 year). President of eBay sales at a local small complany(20 employees), Varsity Tennis 4 years(Captain 2 years), 4 years of D.E.C.A, 2 Years of Key Club, Physics Club, Chemistry Club.

As you can see, academically I'm about average. As far as ECs go, I feel that is my strong point. Not many kids run a large business that started from scratch. Humanitarian work in a rural farm is somewhat unique also.

Applied to BC and Babson Early Action, but I was deferred to regular admissions.

Applied Regular Decision to:

Pepperdine
Boston University
NYU
Harvard

Which schools do you think I can get into?

Thanks for the help!

Your Ecs are amazing, but your stats are too low for H. NYu is 50/50 but the rest are a lock.

ur ec's rock... it sucks that ur SATS are not a bit higher though....but anyways u never know...

Why would you apply to Harvard? Did your parents donate them a VERY fat chunk of money?

I'm really shocked Babson didn't accept you given your entreprenurial success and the fact that your stats are fine there. That implys they saw something that concerned them. Have you talked to them? It will give you insight into how the other schools will view you.

A Harvard acceptance wouldn't surprise me. You do have a good hook and your stats are sound enough that you shouldn't have a problem getting through. But the Babson deferral just doesn't add up.

SATI: 1300
-660 Math
-640 Verbal

SATII:
-MathIC: 580
-Writing: 620
-US History: 530

9-12th GPA: 3.6
10-12th GPA: 3.8

Class Rank: 28/497

I will be VERY shocked if Harvard accepts her. Those stats are nearly suicidal, and plenty of applicants have better hooks. A good hook doesn't mean she is capable of handling the work.

Her History scores are around the 25th percentile of all people who take that test. Her math scores are below the 50th percentile, and the math IC is pretty basic math. Her writing is just around the 50th percentile, too, and that curve is veeery generous. She's kamikaze if she really applied to Harvard.

And with SAT I scores that low, really, the only people who are going to be accepted are incredible athletes or people whose parents have donated loads of money.

Her class rank and GPA leave much to be desired as well.

Her rural farm/humanitarian work is fairly common, too.

Sorry for being harsh. I just hate kids who get ahead of themselves admissions wise.

Her rank is in the top 10%, but the GPA is pretty average. Those SAT scores are gonna be your downfall, I don't think your hook is big enough to account for a 1300 SAT I score, the others are incredibly average too.

Btw... you don't need to be an incredible athlete to get in with a 1300, I've heard of athletes being accepted into ivies with 1100s and 1200s. As long as you get recruited you're fine.

Your EC is a good hook, but the volunteering abroad is done by a lot of people - the company seems pretty good though. If you could at least pull your SAT Is up 100 points I think you'd have a decent chance at Harvard. Otherwise, Harvard is a pretty big reach. The others should be okay, though I'm surprised Babson rejected you...

Top 10% isn't that incredible for a smallish class. Really, 28th in your class isn't too impressive. Especially with such a low GPA.

Pepperdine boston u matches NYU 50/50 Harvard reach

You guys fail to realize that if Harvard rejects ehr it won't be the end of her life. There is no reason not to apply to many different schools if you have the time and the fee money. I don't think they will accept her either, but there is no reason NOT to apply.

You guys are missing some major points. First, starting a business of this magnitude and successfully raising venture funds is highly unusual and a fantastic hook. It is something incredibly few applicants will have done. It shows that this person is likely to be successful in the real world and is in fact already successful. This is what schools want.

Second, the low GPA yet being in the top 10% of the class says she goes to a school without grade inflation. The GPA will be seen the same way as a 4,0 with the same class rank would be.

Third, the key stats are good enough to know she'll make it through fine. SATIs are higher than many athletes and special group students. Class rank is the biggest indicator of success in college and that's fine too. No one will wory about a history score and my guess is she won't be a math major.

I interview for Princeton and if I interviewed her and she was as interesting and bright as her activities imply, she'd have my vote. This is clearly the profile of someone who can be an exception to the 1500 SAT.

My only confusion is that Babson didn't jump. Babson should have been panting!

If you're looking into business, many business schools like Wharton require a very strong background in mathematics, the math scores on the SATs are pretty weak. If you could up those to the upper 600s at least, I'd say you have a decent shot. But it may be a bit late now, I guess all you can do is pray :). I would have expected the business to carry more weight, but I guess not.

I think that your ec's will definently make Harvard look at you. And liek previously stated, it never hurts to apply because that way you will never regret not trying. Who knows, a person on the commitee can see something in you and fight for you. So dont lose hope and just cross your fingers because thats all we can do now.

i'd say u got 50/50 at harvard and 70/30+10(b/c of the business) at the rest
x(rejected)/y(accepted)
