Hey all,

I'm finishing my third year at my CC with an overall gpa of 3.33 and 57 units done (before spring semester). I started off with B's and C's my first year of college, because I had a medical condition. I just finished 15 semester units this spring.

I originally applied to UCR majoring in bus admin (for accounting), but I got accepted into UCR as an Economics major (my second choice). I received an A in Accounting, did pass/nopass for Oceanography (passed), got a D in Calculus, and a D in Microeconomics. My provisions of admission was to pass all my courses with a "C" or better.

In the beginning of the semester, my father (a construction worker) fell off a roof and got injured at work, so I had to spend a majority of my time taking care of him. He's getting old now. He thought there was a ladder underneath him when there clearly wasn't. I thought I could handle all of these classes, but I didn't manage my time well. In the middle of the semester, I was thinking about getting a W in Econ or Calculus but I decided to try and pass these courses. I was able to do well in Accounting because my Accounting class was on a Sunday and my mother was able to take care of him.

I was wondering if I could explain this to UCR. Also, should I call them first, or send in my transcript and see what they say? Can you guys please give me your input on my situation? Thanks in advance.
