Please help with transfer plan?

Hey everyone,

I am an IB Diploma student in Dubai and have been rejected by pretty much every school I applied to because of my very very low SAT of 1800. I wish I had put in more effort.

I got rejected at:

Brown, Cornell, USC, Vanderbilt, NYU, University of Chicago. I also got wait listed at Miami and trinity college.

I am still waiting on Michigan but I am not expecting to get in.

My IB diploma predicted is around 38-39/42 which is high. That is very frustrating for me as I have put in sooo much effort in order to keep my overall school grades very high.

Anyways, I have been accepted to Northeastern. I am in the honors program as SAT's are not used for international admissions.

I plan on studying for the SAT's this summer and redoing them in September or October. I also plan on trying my best to achieve a high IB Diploma grade.

I plan on studying economics and my college GPA should be high as I have already started some advanced concepts on my own.

What I want to know is what else can I do to ensure a transfer to a great school like Vanderbilt or Cornell?

Also, If i want to transfer after one year would colleges care about my high school grades even if my college GPA was high?

Is it a lot easier to transfer after two years given that the college GPA is high both years?

Thanks a lot!

Haha I used to live in Dubai! (bur Dubai area) … .defooo not the place to be in the summer :P

Okay first off, your SAT scores are very good! Don’t listen about the BS here on CC that it’s too low…don’t worry about that.If you feel like it hurt u there’s no harm in retaking it but try to break 2000+.And like srsly, u got into northeastern which is a great school …i know for a fact that so many ppl (including myself) would kill to go there! and on top of that into its honors program …and northeastern 's in Boston which is a huge plus—tons of things to do to keep itself busy and you will have a an easier time getting some work experience and internships in Boston. UMiami is awesome too…good location, weather and diversity …try to stay on the WL…I hope you’ll get off  bottom line is…wherever u end up …you might end up loving it…potentially exceeding ur past expectations AND don’t care about prestige that’s stupid!rhe prestige of your collehe wont take you very far…instead the networking and opportuniries u seize will!fit & happiness is way more important.
Its been a tough and competitive yr to get into top colleges …cheer up! Everything happens for a reason…u never know that really it’s a blessing in disguise
.

Good luck!

I grew up in Dubai! I go to UMiami, and I don’t like it here at all. I’d definitely say go to Northeastern, and do your best. Give the school and the city a chance, and who knows, you may love it.

However, if you don’t, then you can always transfer.

I don’t see why you should give your SAT’s again. I’ve only applied to NYU, and their website mentions that transfer students should not give their SAT’s again.

Some 4 year schools actually like to take transfer students from community colleges more than like to take transfer students from 4 year universities. Plus, you can save a lot of money at a CC.
I have heard that the longer you are in college the less your high school grades matter.
Plus, many 4 year universities have “feeder colleges.” For example UC Berkeley takes a significant number of students from Berkeley city college. So you may want to strategically choose what college you go to.

Thanks for your replies everyone! Yeah I am going to Northeastern and I am quite happy about it actually.

Community college is def not an option though. I will give Northeastern a chance happily and you never know I may even end up graduating from there. :)

Thanks again guys!
