We most resent in others the very flaws that we ourselves possess.

This is so true! There are times when you find something about someone very bothersome, without noticing that you actually acquire that flaw yourself. This happens with nearly everybody. Its human nature that the things we rail against in someone else are the very flaws that someone else resents in us and I'm sure none of us would deny this fact.

Our everyday life is full of such examples. I remember an old friend of mine who was very close to me. She was always moneyless. Whenever we had a free class, we would go off straight to the canteen where we would kill time having french fries and coke. As she never had a cent with her, it was always me who would pay for everything and gradually I started hating her for always having empty pockets. She could pay for herself once in a blue moon, I always thought but then school ended and I got rid of her. In high school, I was the penny-less one and my friends always paid for all that I ate. Now I realize that my friends would have thought the same about me as I thought about my school friend.

Apart from that, sometimes you do things that you resent the most, inadvertently. In Pakistan, you will time and again witness people littering the roads and throwing their garbage in streets and parks. Just because the waste bins a few steps away, the indolent people here would litter any available space they get. Once I was on my way to school and I saw a young boy throwing empty bottles of coke and wrappers of chips on the road, to which my reaction was Stupid boy! No etiquette! A few moments later, when I was done with my cup of coffee, I lowered the car window and threw the disposable cup in front of a house. It was not when the security guard shouted from behind that I realised I had done the same thing as the little boy.

Breaking traffic rules is a common practice in my country. When I learnt how to drive from my father, I promised myself that I was never going to break any rules but its human nature that we never fulfill any promise do we? I always saw boys and girls my age, driving at double my speed and breaking traffic rules. It was very exasperating then but as soon as I got my own private car, I was one of them.

If you look at yourself closely, you will come across many flaws that you find very annoying in your friends, your siblings or just people in general. We should make an effort to get rid of these drawbacks and become a better human being. This would lead to a healthier society to live in.
