Assignment: Is the world changing for the better?

New technology and fascinating discoveries have made life easier, but one must ask "Is the world really changing for the better?" The answer would be no for technology has overshadowed the violence and environmental problems of the world. Countries are always belligerent towards each other and pollution is destroying habitats.

Even though the world has been blessed with technology and luxury items, violence continues. Violence is often caused by greed, ambition, and struggle for power. For example, terrorism seems to affect many parts of the world. Every year thousands of innocent lives are lost at the hands of a suicide bomber who claims to be doing the "work of God." Current economic difficulties in the US have forced many people to take drastic measures, which include robbery, kidnapping and even murder. Thus people have no coice but to commit felonies in order to survive. New nuclear weapons can drastically alter our future as well because the possibility of a nuclear war exists between countries.

Pollution, however, is a long term problem that is hindering our future. The use of fossil fuels is harming everyone including the environment. Animals are at the brink of the extinction and something as common as water is now unsafe. Pollution has made air dirty and certain habitats are being destroyed. Furthermore, greenhouse gases are destroying the ozone layer and increasing the global temperature. The rising temperatures, also known as global warming, are melting the polar ice caps and making the sea level rise. At this rate there will be no future because there will be less land to live on.

Thus, violence and pollution are destroying the world and most of all a better world. We are all citizens of this world and it is our responsibility to care for it for the good of all.

Please don't be afraid to be harsh. Thanks
