I'm applying to IUB for fall-2012. Im applying an international undergrad. here's a brief summary go my profile:

Cocuriculars- head of the school editorial board for 3 years, member of the writers club,

did an internship at a bank for a month
did various projects in school, earned a scholar blazer and tie.
Ive got pretty awesome Recommnedations from teachers too.

My only concern is the academic part. will the rest of my profile get me through? Im really serious about IUB. please help me out !

Well, you SAT scores are fine. The GPA is a bit on the low end for IU–if 74% roughly equates to a 2.0?

Your ECs may help, but IU really focuses on the academics.

Just curious: if you are really serious about IU, why did you wait so long to apply?

Your GPA is a bit low

Bur I will say there is always chance.

I did not have any professional help earlier though even now i’m kind of confused. Applying abroad for me was not pre-decided. How can i possibly improve my chances ?

And could you enlighten me on the enrollment status for fall 2012 ? I mean an idea on what the situation is at the moment ?

Okay i checked up on my GPA…its not unweighted…
my marks are 74 out of 100…

You are going to have to explain your GPA. The optional essay would be a good place to explain why it is so low.

However, I get the feeling that you and/or your school have a different definition of weighted gpa’s than in the States. If your WEIGHTED GPA is truly only 74/100 (a C average), I think you will need a really good explanation (like a prolonged illness or a death in the family) to be admitted. Your counselor will also have to verify your situation in their report to IU.

Which country are you coming from? If you don’t have the type of excuse I listed above, maybe IU is aware of a difference in grading in your part of the world?

Also, do you know your class rank?

I come from India.
Here we have the % system I.e each subject is marked on a scale of 0-100. That way I have an average % of 75 per subject
my class rank figures on the top 20.

Based on what you’ve written, top 20% of your class and earned a “scholar blazer and tie”, I’m thinking that the grading system at your school (and in all of India) is just different than here in the U.S. I’d bet that the IU admissions office is aware of these differences and takes them into account when making their decisions.

Good Luck!

p.s. by top 20, you did mean % of class, right?

Yes, Exactly. It’s different from that in the United States. I’m in the top 20% of my class. Yes that’s true :)

I’d say automatic rejection

Accepted into Kelley Direct Admit !!
