Thanks for reading my thread. I have been out of high school for a few years (7 to be exact). I wanted to go back into school and the university that I am applying to requires me to have an SAT score in order to accept my american high school credits. (I am now living internationally.)
I have not written an essay in over 7 years and am really scared about the 25 minute essay on the SAT. Given the fact that I am a bit "rusty" i would love feedback on this essay. It was the first one and I am sure I can only improve from here. Would this essay get me at least an 8? I did not proofread or edit this as I honestly just want a score range that I can expect on the real SAT this Saturday.

Essay Question: Should people take more responsibility for solving problems that affect their communities or nation in general?

In order to make a difference in this world people need to fight for their needs and wants. The government is not here to help individual people or groups to reach their own unique goals. This is especially true when two different groups have conflicting goals. The only way to attain your desires is to fight for what you believe in. This need for a person to take responsibility is evident in literature and history.
"Lady, get up. I need your seat" said a Montgomery Bus driver in 1955. He was referring to Rosa Parks, a black woman who was "supposed" to give up her seat so that a white person could sit down without any blacks next to her. Rosa Parks made a monumental decision that day; she decided to take responsibility for the problems affecting her community by refusing to give a white person her seat. She was then arrested, but her actions ignited her community to demand a change. This lad to the Montgomery Bus Boycott; All black people chose to make a statement by not using the bus system at all. The boycott lasted 381 days; which consequentially, created a major financial problem for the bus company. A law was then passed that gave a black person the same right as a white person to the seats on the bus. Not only was this a success for seats but also a success for the Civil Rights movement. This one event fueled the success of others to fight for the black community's needs which eventually led to equal rights for all.
Labor Unions are here to protect the rights of their members. They make sure that members are neither overworked nor under paid. This is evident in the 2010 Taxi Strike. Taxi drivers needed better taxi's and wanted the government to realize the value and necessity of taxi's. Taxi Drivers thus had a one day strike; no taxi drivers worked that day. This resulted in an abundance of workers who were not able to get to their jobs. The workforce was at a standstill. By Taxi drivers taking responsibility for the problems affecting their group they were able to show the government the value of their role in society and were then given brand new Taxi cars. This not only benefited their own community but also benefited the country's citizens as a whole. They were not sitting in safer and more comfortable taxi's.
The only way to make a difference and to make a change is to take responsibility for your rights. The success of taking a proactive role is evident in the labor union strike as well as the actions of Rosa Parks, both of which, led to major advantages for the country as a whole.
