I've never written an ACT essay and I'm taking it tomorrow. Would someone please critique my essay.

Prompt: In some states, legislators have debated whether teenagers should be required to maintain a C grade average in school before receiving a driver's license. In your opinion should teenagers be required to maintain a c average in school before receiving a driver's license.

In this day and age, as a teenager, getting your driver's license is an important right of passage. Because when teens get their license it offers them freedom. However, with legislators debating whether teens should be required to maintain a c grade average this freedom would be limited. Any policy that would enact such a condition would prove erroneous.

For many teens when they are of age they get their first job, and in many instances they must get jobs to help their families. So, in order to get to their jobs they need transportation. This transportation is only accessible when teenagers can get a license. However, because many students have to provide for their families their studies take a back burner causing their grades to slip. For these students if they couldn't get their driver license they would lose access to transportation, causing them to lose their jobs, which could put their families into an economic crisis.

Not only does this legislation fail to take into account working teens, but it assumes that grades reflect responsibility. Personally, several of my friends in the top 10 percent have gottenn into car crashes. Just because you have higher than a c average doesn't mean you are immune to the dangers of the road. Teens get into accidents for several reasons whether it be texting, speeding, etc. but never because they've failed a math test.

In conclusion, any legislation that correlates grades with driving would be preposterous. It may be true in some instances that students with lower than a c average are irresponsible when it comes to grades. However, many times these students are more responsible about things they care about, like driving. Teens will always pose a threat on the roads but it won't be because of their grades. And when it comes to the dangers of teens on the road, as Franklin D Roosevelt said, "The only thing we have.to fear is fear itself", not teens who struggle in school.
