So, I’m a California community college transfer student for fall 2019. I am finishing my IGETC this semester.
Several weeks ago I got an email from UC Davis asking for my winter intersession grades. I took 2 courses this winter to speed up my eligibility to transfer, but this was offered at a community college I don’t regularly attend. I had 5 days to upload my transcripts, and did so the same day.
Today, I received an email from the UC portal, not a specific school, asking for my unofficial transcripts from the community college that I regularly attend. It only gave me 2 days to respond and I uploaded them today.
I have regularly checked my app and have been up to date with the TAU and other forums required, so I’m not sure why this was requested of me. Is this because I went to two different CCs? Am I a borderline admit? Simple verification check?
If anyone has any insight I would love to know!
I applied to: UCSD, UCLA, UCD, UCSC, and UCB/Cal
Other Stats: Average GPA at 3.79 (strong for certain majors I applied to) Average extracurriculars, Somewhat unique topics discussed in my essays.
@ilovemydog2019 so its random? if its random, that means they choose to go all over that person’s application? while they don’t review non-randoms like that
Btw when I update my winter grades( March 20), they requested my unofficial transcript from my cc on March 26.
Although, I see a pattern that they request an unofficial transcript from people who took winter classes and update on TAU.
This has now been asked 5,000 times, so hopefully the buck stops here.
It doesn’t mean one thing or the other. It may be random, it may mean something specific (such as possible scholarship consideration or verifying a grade). People get asked all the time and get in. People do not get asked all the time and get in. We have no way of knowing. Don’t sweat it.
I just received a different email from the UC portal asking about my gap of education. After graduating high school I didn’t enroll in a community college for 3 and half years because I didn’t feel ready and didn’t see myself doing quality work (as I received a lot of low grades in high school) This time they need me to respond by March 28th (aka tomorrow).
I know I just had some reassurance from you guys (and thank you for that!), but now I am really concerned. This is my second email from them in the same day and the deadlines to respond to them are just getting shorter and shorter.
I did see other forums about this. What I found unique about my situation was that I only had two days to respond (compared to the 5 that most people see) as well as receiving it from UC portal instead of a specific school. Maybe I didn’t research it well enough but a lot of forums I saw about this were several years old, so I wasn’t sure if anything had changed. Additionally, I’m now being asked of another response within 24 hours regarding my academic gap. While the second email they sent me today would not be unusual by itself, it’s as I stated the second one I’ve received in a short time in addition to only having 24 hours to respond. I check my email regularly (several times a day) so that would not be the issue. Is it usual to be asked for both of these out of the same applicant?
I don’t know anything about that. The two day turnaround is probably because it’s so last minute. That might make me think you’re borderline and they need to finalize. I have seen some from the portal as opposed to a specific UC. I’m sorry I can’t help you. I don’t think anyone knows.
Also I don’t mean to single you out. I just grabbed the most recent post on it that I saw.
I contacted a UC representative about how they select who gets asked about gaps in their education and she said it isn’t random who they ask but that they typically ask when they need more information to complete the review of the application. I’m guessing the same is true when they ask for transcripts. In my opinion, how they determine when they need more information is very likely subjective and can only be determined by them. No matter how much we speculate we probably will never know.
For those concerned because they DIDNT get an email asking about gaps in their education:
I provided her with my application ID and I think she might have looked at my application because she said I provided a pretty good explanation about my situation in my additional comments which is why they didn’t feel the need to contact me.
Regardless we are almost there! About less than a month away until we hear back from all the UC’s. In other words: don’t sweat it! ?
