I'm a non-English speaker and i totally suck in CR! i got 540 in July. I want to boost my CR score to at least 600+ (well, i think that's pretty practical...)
i have read some books like
Harry Potter (as everyone else have :P )
His Dark Materials
The World is Flat
but I do think that the vocabs are far easier than those of SAT...
I've also read Pride and Prejudice previously and I'm now reading Wuthering Heights and the Vocab is quite challenging and SAT-like.

Can anyone recommend some other books that can actually help increase CR score?
and does the Lord of the Rings help cause i've just bought it.

For strictly vocabulary improvements, I agree, you'd be better off with vocab lists--though nothing with the word "Barrons" on it. A lot of people recommend Sparknotes 1000 list. Rocket Review's and Maximum SAT's lists are also good, though not quite as extensive (especially the former).

As far as improving your reading ability (which will help not only with the 48 passage questions but with some of the sentence completion questions whose difficulty lies not in the vocab word you're suppose to know, but in the verbosity of the sentence), it doesn't really matter what books you read. Just read. Don't read books that are too easy, obviously, but don't try to kill yourself either. It's very important that you read every day, though. It really helps your reading dicipline, and in turn your overall reading ability, to force yourself to read every single day without fail for [x] amount of time (I recommend at least an hour).

thanks for your advice! I've been working on Barron's vocab list though. I want to have some more reading materials to boost my other reading abilities (not only vocab, but like speed & understanding) so I really want to fetch some books of equal level to SAT or had been excerpted from in SAT.
Does anyone else have any other idea? :)

The Lord of the Rings is a very interesting book and will definitely help improve your vocabulary.

Personally, I think it's more important to read books than to just cram word lists. That way, you will understand the context of a particular word properly.

Those kaplan sat score raising classic books are good. They're not too difficult and they highlight and define the vocab words used in the novel for you.

David Copperfield is a great boring book! Count on Dickens.
I also recommend the Great Gatsby. I don't know if you'll think it's boring or not, but the language in there, at least what I feel, is advanced but easy to figure out from context clues. It won't be an entire block of craziness to endure, but it'll still help you learn, kind of like what thomaskurian89 was saying.

Green eggs and ham is great if you're an aspiring rap artist.

Good luck strangersasha! I'm sure you'll make it to your goal!

To be truthful,
Harry Potter is for kids
The World is flat is for people, but it must comes in an easy explanation to understand
Therefore these books does not contain as much SAT words. Try some classic, or better classical novels, like Moby Dick or the likes of it

Thanks guys! I really appreciate ur help. I've just finished Wuthering Heights lately. It's kindda boring... but it's just like what ETS is fond of.
i'm gonna read some Dickens' books later.
