Hello,

I am from NYC. I graduated from high school in 2011. At that time, I was admitted to Poly tech institute of New York University as a GS(General Studies) student. I drop out of this University after the fall semester of 2011. My gpa was around 1.56.
I was admitted to NYIT in the spring as a transfer student. I did not do well for the next few semester till this year. I have failed my calculus twice and English 2 twice. I managed to passed both of them. My current gpa is 2.46.

As of right now, I am trying to apply to CUNY as a transfer student with 2.46 gpa.
My plan is to withdraw from NYIT, and hopefully I will get admitted to any of the CUNY's int he Spring of 2014.
classes had already began. I am not sure if I shall continue to take courses this fall.

Any suggestions are appreciated, thank you for reading my boring story!

The deadline to apply to Cuny for the Spring is September 15. Some of the schools will still admit students after that on a space available basis. You need to check each CUNY website to find out their GPA required for transfer. You should also find the one that accepts most of your credits.

Now is their a reason why your failing? Have you seeked out tutoring or anything like that?

Thanks for the reply,

I have already applied for the Spring.

As for your questions, I always skips classes and barely do any work during my first year. In the second year, I started to do work, but it is not enough. I have poor studying habits. In middle school, and high school. I never studied for anything, its probably because this, that caused my failure.

Your writing is not what I would expect to see from a second year college student. Is English a second or third language for you? If so, you would probably benefit by stopping by the ESL office on your campus, and asking about specialized English for Academic purposes classes. You also should visit the tutoring and counseling centers to find out about help with improving your study skills. Even if you can manage to transfer to a CUNY, you might not really be prepared to do your very best.

happymomof1,

Thank you for your reply. You are a great observer. English is my second language. In a formal academic paper, I actually do alright with them. I can’t seem to pull up the formal way of writing whenever I want. I need to write or type slower, and check back with every sentences before moving on to the next one.
I go to the writing center pretty often. They just don’t seem to help. I think it is more of a problem with the ways how I group words into sentences.
