Please tell me if i have a good shot

i'm applying to Cornell's AAP and CAS regular decision

gpa: 4.0
sat: 710M 800CR 800W total: 2310
class rank: 1 out of 85
sat IIs: Math 1: 720, US Hist: 790, Lit:790

also, i'm an immigrant (came to US when i was five from Albania)

President of National Honor Society, Art Club, Math League.
Vice President of Senior Class
70ish hours of volunteer work

also, our school is small, so we don't have many available APs, but i took all the hardest classes (and all the APs)

nice. 10char

You need a portfolio for AAP…Cas good chance?

Uh oh… I’d advise against doing an alternative college if you’re applying to AAP. If what I’ve heard is correct, they almost always reject applicants who use the alternative option, (at least in the architecture department) even if the AAP was their primary choice.</p>

I don’t know about the other majors(art/urban planning) though. they probably function differently. But yeah, if you’re applying to AAP for art/architecture, you need a portfolio.

good shot. try upping your math1 score if you can, but you should be fine.

if you have good essays and recommendations i cant see why you wouldnt get in.

Your Math1 is fine. You shouldn’t try to raise your SATs up if they’re over 700, because that already falls into a decent range for the Ivy League. The adcom won’t stress about that, because your test scores, overall, are already excellent. In conclusion, you should definitely give Cornell a shot.

thanks for all your responses thus far! and yes, i am organizing a portfolio

akmeecheen, where did you hear that? this worries me, i really wanted to go to CAS if i can’t get in AAP

and yeah, i’m primarily worried about my math 1 score. i’m wondering whether i should retake it or take the math 2

I definitely think that you should not take another Math test, but that is just my opinion.

because the majors in AAP are so specialized (and because all 3 programs are limited enrollment), they want to see that you are 100% serious about AAP, and thats why they discourage applicants from applying to an alternate college. just because you get the opportunity to apply to another college doesnt mean you have to take them up on that offer. as long as you have a STRONG portfolio (dont wait until last minute to do it!) and great essays, you should stand a good chance for AAP. good luck!
