On the 1st PLME essay question (Why medicine? Why PLME?), I am considering writing an essay about how I'm interested in medicine despite some frustrating experiences I've had w/ doctors that have been unable to help a medical condition that I have.

Is that a terrible idea? I thought it would be good because it shows that I'm not naive about the medical profession and its occasional shortcomings, but some people that I've talked to think the Brown med school adcoms won't like it.

What do you all think?

I actually like it. It's something different and portrays doctors in a different light other than "saving angels". I don't see the exact descrepancy between wanting to become a doctor and shortcomings in medicine, though, unless it's because you want to improve on it.

one other question that has come to mind: does PLME/Brown Med School have a bias against the surgical specialty? I'm asking because I'm really interested in surgery, and that's what a lot of my essay is about, and because I've heard somewhere that "if you want to go into primary care [at Brown's med schooo], you'll have endless resources but if you want to become a specialist you're on your own."

it shouldnt hurt you

lol are you doing ED or something?

i think it's a bad idea as is. if you've had frustrating experiences with doctors, then that's a reason for you not to be interested in medicine. in your topic you still dont explain WHY you're interested in medicine DESPITE those experiences. just clear up your points and decide what you wanna say.
