PLME essays?

Ok, so the 2 essays -

Most high school seniors are unsure about eventual career choices. What experiences have led you to consider medicine as your future profession? Please describe specifically why you have chosen to apply to the Program in Liberal Medical Education in pursuit of your career in medicine. Also, be sure to indicate your rationale on how the PLME is a ‘good fit’ for your personal, academic and future professional goals.

Since the Program in Liberal Medical Education espouses a broad-based liberal education, please describe your fields of interest in both the sciences and the liberal arts. Be specific about what courses and aspects of the program will be woven into a potential educational plan.

Is it just me, or is #2 a partial repeat of #1 (just, I assume, more in depth)? Is it ok if there’s a lot of overlap between the two essays, in that case?

Thanks!!

For me, in essay 1 I focused a lot on my internship shadowing a surgeon and how I had real experience in the office, and in essay 2 I focused on how PLME would provide me with better educational opportunities, all i can really say without telling my personal viewpoints.

thanks, so for #1 you had less of the "Also, be sure to indicate your rationale on how the PLME is a 'good fit' for your personal, academic and future professional goals." ?

bump. overlap? yes? no?

yeah. I mentioned it somewhat, but my main focus in that essay was how I knew I wanted to be a doctor.

is it ok if you go over 500 words for the essays?

one of mine is 521

I think it's supposed to be 500 or fewer :-/

thats ok, i trimmed it down to 498 lol, interestingly, it doesnt say anything on the application about how long those two particular essays have to be....I called Brown a while ago and, although it took them a while, they answered me by saying that each one should be a 500 word essay

yep me too, I had to ask

I honestly don't think they'll count every single word. I think as long as you're withing 10% of the suggested limit you're fine. If they're gonna not admit a qualified candidate because of 21 words, then they need to go reconsider their occupation choice.

i just called them, and she told me 250 words per plme essay. and she said to upload it, and look at the print preview. if it gets cut off it's too long
i uploaded this other 1700 word essay (2.5 pages) just to test, and it wasn't cut off at all
kinda odd

really?? weird, they told me 500 each

hold on hold on....this is kinda important...i called and i was told that they should be 500 words EACH....what's this i'm seeing about 250 words?!

that's what the lady told me lol.. i had a 500 word essay for the first one too
i'll call again tomorrow, and i recommend you guys do too

well its kinda too late for them to tell us now...besides the app doesnt specify word length...

ok, i just called again, and this time i talked to both undergrad admissions and the plme office, and this time they both said 500 words each lol
so 500 words it is (fortunately)

phew thanks :D

i called today. they said just use good judgment (i.e. 1 page per essay)

Are we allowed to have more than one page if it is double-spaced, or do they frown at double-spacing? :) My essay is 535 words.

Thank you in advance!

well why would you want to double space?
usually college prefer single
