That about covers it I think, screwed around in 9th grade (which is explained in one of his essays) until he became enlightened and highly motivated.

Lots going on senior year as well, but admission will probably be based on past 3 years.

Thanks!!

What is his intended major and where is your home state?

He is applying to LSA and will be a Ross hopeful (he doesn’t expect to get into Ross as a freshman). We live in Michigan, I forgot to add NHS and GOP volunteer (60 hours) for the 2012 election. Out of graduating classes of approximately 320 students per year, MI usually accepts around 35 students from his HS each year- although I don’t know if all of them are in top 10%, some may have hooks. Son is at 8.5% of his class.

It also looks like he did very poorly as a freshman considering the w/unw
GPAs. Had a 3.75 gpa going into 11th grade, his school only gives 0.021 extra points for each AP class taken (as long they passed the class).
So it wasn’t really that bad.

oh yes, one more item: writing scores for ACT 9, and SAT 10.

His ACT is better than SAT. How is the score break down?
Anyway, for in state LSA, he should be a match to low match. But pre-admit to Ross would be a low reach. His GPA is slightly below admission average GPA for UMich, while his ACT is at 75%.

His score breakdown for ACT is Eng 35, Reading 33, Math 33, and Sci 29. I don’t know off hand his break down for the SAT, yes, we are aware the composite is slightly lower compared to ACT. I was hoping all the 5s on his AP exams would be helpful, although you don’t have to submit them, we did.
During our tour last summer, UofM said the average GPA is 3.84.

UMich admission average GPA was 3.83 for 2012 and 3.85 for 2013. With the ever increasing applicant pool, it is not likely to go lower this year. His ACT break down is very good and more or less evenly distributed even with Sci at 29. AP scores has little weight if at all for admission. Even for SAT2, it is not required but may be considered. He should have no problem getting into LSA.

Sigh… ahhh… hoping they think the way you do… either way MSU honors college has been hounding him
