I am one of those kids the really slacked off fresh and sophomore year,
3.65 (weighted GPA)freshman year (1A and 7Bs, 4 honor and 4 regular classes) got so many boarder line Bs......
4.15 (weighted GPA)sophomore year(5A and 3Bs, 4 honor and 4 regular classes)
i am taking APUSH and AP STAT Junior year with 4 honor classes, and 2 engineering classes(which give you AP grade point but not AP credit)
I figure if I get str8 A junior year, my GPA will be around 4.45 ish
IDK what to take senior year yet, probably AP Calculus AB + BC, AP Bio, AP art.....
Extracurricular
I didnt join that many clubs, got kick out of key club freshman year (didn't have enough hour) so no club freshman year???
I joined HOSA this year, got 3rd place in state and went to the National Leadership Conference in Orlando, and i will be the HOSA publicity chair next year....
I will try to join a lot more club next year
3 year football (1 year JV and 2 year Varsity) didn't play freshman year cuz i just moved to a new school
4 year track and hopefully 2 year winter track......
i am starting to volunteer at CMC (Carolinas Medical Center) starting September, gonna sign up for summer venture next year
i am pretty confident about SAT and ACT, (I have been going to this tutor place C2 for the past year) probably gonna end up in the 2200-2300 range....
my dream college is Duke(long shot, i know) second choice is UNC.....
so what are my chances........I promise i will study really hard next year........:)
I'm asian 1st gen college if that helps.......

What is your unweighted GPA (it is usually viewed as more important then weighted). If you get the SAT scores you expect to get and do just as well on the subject tests you might have a shot. Keep the upward grade trend going and stay involved in your EC’s. I don’t think your chances are great, you are not a competitive applicant right now. Do what you say you plan to do and come back for chancing in a year.
Chance me? http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/1357249-what-my-chances-swarthmore.html

I’m going to say your chacnes for Duke are pretty slim, Your GPA is just a tad low and being Asian i doubt getting a really high SAT would help. Are you instate for UNC? If so then you may have a chance if you get your SAT scores up. But either way I suggest you apply and find out!

Chance me?

@coola426 yes, I’m in state, does make any difference with duke???
@artsygirl my unweighted gpa will be about 3.5 if I get all As next year 3.75 by end of senior year…

Come back after you take the actual SAT or ACT.

Do take the actual tests and come back. Duke does take a good portion of the class from the Carolinas, but you won’t get as big of a boost as being in-state for a public school. Anyway, if Duke really is your dream school, apply Early Decision and see what happens, ED provides a really nice boost in chance of acceptance.

But as of now based off other acceptances, I think you have a shot if you do well on your tests and keep improving the GPA
