Chances for: Rice (my dream school!!), UF, UMiami, UVA? Also please suggest other match schools.

Addtl info:
-Legacy for UMiami & dad teaches in its law school
-I will be crushed if I don't get into Rice, but I've been told so sweetly by someone else applying there from my school with better grades & SATs that I basically have "no chance at all" and that I might as well ask to be accepted into Harvard or for a cure for cancer.

Oh, very important thing I forgot: I want to be a lawyer, so the schools I need to go to must either have their own law school or be schools that law schools would think are good, so that they would help me to get in.

I think you are good to go in terms of matches. Did you apply to UMiami? That’s a good school right there. I think Fordham will be a go too. Rice is a reach, but I don’t think it’s out of reach. Congrats on your accepts!

I think your SAT is just a little under par for rice, but your quizbowl and extracurriculars seem strong. I’d say it’s really going to come down to your essays and rec letters! UVA is also extremely competitive for out of state applicants, but you might be a match for michigan. as for more match schools, what about indiana university at bloomington, wake forest university, or university of texas?

By UM, I meant UMiami. Down here, UM only refers to UMiami. Sorry for any confusion

gotcha! well miami is a lot easier to get into than michigan. you’re in a good place!

Thanks! What about UNC Chapel Hill? Vanderbilt or Wash U in St Louis?

for those three schools, you have to hike your SAT up by about 150 or more I think. I’m not sure what the ACT equivalent would be

Thanks. Does U of Texas have any affiliation with law programs or law schools?

Woah, okay, on your other post, I didn’t see that you were Hispanic. You have a pretty good chance then of getting into Rice.

Good luck.

Oh, didn’t see this either after I responded on my other thread. I’m just confused because everytime I talk to teachers or other people, they differ on whether they believe I’ll get in or not. Thanks for the opinion!

I looked up Wake Forest and I like it. It has stellar academics and it has a really nice campus. Thanks for the suggestion, dancer615!

Rice could be a bit of a high match (Still a match mind you. I still expect you to get in.) but you’ll probably get in all of them!

No way. Oh my God, you have me literally jumping up and down with my laptop. I have to calm down, though, and I certainly can’t get my hopes up. But, it gives me a much better feeling overall.

Bump for more chancing and college matches please! It would be greatly appreciated.

At this point, you know you’re going to college somewhere…so I say Go For It!
Just make sure you talk over cost with your parents since you may not get merit scholarships, unless money ain’t an issue.

Good Luck!

I have my own reservations against law ([Inside the Law School Scam](http://insidethelawschoolscam.blogspot.com/)), but I’d suggest ASU (yeah. my state flagshiip, how banal). My dad really liked the O’Conner Law college when he looked at it my freshman year, and the campus itself is very nice. Your stats would qualify you for a 13K merit package there.

@Buggie111 There’s nothing wrong with a law degree itself. As for state flagships, though it is a nice school, ASU doesn’t really fall on my radar for schools I’d attend. I’d rather then go to UF law because I’d get more money since it is my home state.

@TheAtlantic I still qualify for some financial aid, though. I also have a college fund, so it wouldn’t be that bad.

I don’t mean to get into a debate with you, but what do you mean by “nothing wrong with a law degree itself”? Non-law employers like JD’s?

I was under the impression that you feel that law schools are just a money making business. I understand that, and I sorta agree. However, the degree itself that you earn if you go to law school shouldn’t be seen as something wrong. If anything, it’s the school or the people who later on become corrupt lawyers.

Yes. That’s completely correct. There is nothing wrong in wanting to become a lawyer, and getting a degree. It just doesn’t look like the pastures are Technicolor green afterwards.
