We have been researching schools and my daughter is extremely interested in Point Park. Keep in mind that we are in Georgia, she is interested in technical theatre (stage management and lighting specifically), wants a BFA, and is a weak academic student but highly motivated and dedicated to theatre. Can anyone give me info about Point Park, the conservatory, the city, etc? Thanks!

ugadog, Point Park University is a growing, vibrant and exciting place to be these days. If there ever was a school that is trending upward, it’s PPU. More to the “point,” the Conservatory of Performing Arts has long been a well-respected school regionally and nationally. They put you to work quickly too, especially the tech and stage people. Their shows (and they do a lot of shows every year between the musicals, plays and dance shows) are always very well done and that goes for the technical aspects too. And since they do a lot of shows, the tech students get a lot of hands on experience, which from my experience is what those “non-academic” thinkers and doers want, right?

Pittsburgh is a great city with a rich cultural and theater scene, great sports scene, lots to do on a college budget. And PPU is right in the thick of it. It is safe as cities go. Not too big to be unmanageable for a college student, yet lots of “big city” stuff. It’s a great city for college kids.

Thanks for the information. This is exactly what I was looking for. One of the aspects of PPU she likes best is the great number of shows they do! I think if you ask her, Point Park is a the top of her list. Thanks again.
