Point Park

My audition is at 3:00 as well! Maybe I'll see you there:)

I auditioned at Point Park last year in September, it was the first audition. I do believe you are auditioning on the first possible day also? Well b/c the audition is so early, I remember there were literally only 10 students auditioning that day (and some were for acting). So the auditions did go by really really quickly. However, the dance audition is LAST. Also, keep in mind that b4 the auditions happen, there is sign up, a tour, they also made us take a music theory test and talked to us for a while...... I don't think there is any way you will be done by 4:30. Basically, 3:00 is not really your daughters audition "slot." Call the school, they could give you an estimate of when you wil be done.

Hope this helps?

GO AMY O!

and everyone else too...

I just merged the new thread regarding Point Park Auditions with the recent thread on Point Park so that we keep lots of information on this one topic in ONE thread. This helps people find the information on that school. Also, it reduces duplication. The latest posts above have to do with Point Park Auditions specifically.

Good luck to the forum posters and/or their children going to the Point Park auditions coming up this week. This might be the first round of this year's group of kids going out. Break a leg!

thanks so much for the support everyone! :) It's so nice to have some positive encouragement. This is the second PP audition date, so I'm not quite sure how many to expect. I just know there was one in September if I'm not mistaken. Anyone go to the second audition last year?

Hi Guys,

I'm hoping to see some acceptances for PPU posted here shortly! The first September MT auditioners were told 4 weeks til notification. My D did the first dance audition in September and was told 3 weeks (she hopes to major in Jazz dance there with minor in MT). My fingers are crossed for her and all of our CC kids who have the possibility of an early acceptance, what a comfort that would be for them, and what a relief for us! Best of luck to all our performers :)

OK, now this is freaky. Just got the mail and there are two envelopes from PPU. Of course, Mel is at dance til 2 PM today, so I have to wait....unless she picks up her cell phone to tell me it's OK to open them! Could be nothing, but then again... good thoughts everyone!

Hoping for good things for you and your D in those envelopes today! 2 envelopes sounds promising...it seems like it would only take one envelope to say no! Best of Luck!

kathie (kaysmom)

It is a very good day for Mel. She has been accepted to PPU for Jazz Dance, with two big 4 year scholarships for both dance and academics. She also got a small 4 year scholarship for leadership and community service. All is well and we are JAZZED!

Again, hoping for good news for all of you here at CC!

YES!!!!!!!! congrats!

Melsmom--I'm so thrilled at the good fortune of your daughter!! I'm happy for her and you and for your family that so deserves fantastic news like this!!! Hehehe.

So what will her classes be like? Will she take ballet and tap, too? Will she be minoring, too? Does PPU compete in dance competitions?

Okayyy...so this is the only school Mel is applying to for dance, as this was the only one she found that has the style of dancing that dance competitors are used to. She favors the musical theater style, as well as lyric (she's in her 16th year at age 17). Dancing is her strong point and she would be very happy at PPU as a Jazz dance major with MT minor. We were hoping it was a safety. She is however still applying for a BFA in MT at a few schools, to see how she makes out, especially those with strong dance programs or with a good football dance team :) Now she can relax and have fun, hopefully!

Melsmom: Wonderful, wonderful news. Congratulations to her (and to you!).

How terrific Melsmom! What great news!!! Congratulations!!!

Congratulations Melsmom! That is definitely a big deal. I can totally understand about the whole finding out this early and having some weight of of her shoulders. I'm heading to PPU on Friday for my first college audition for MT and I'm pretty nervous, but also excited at the same time. Again, congratulations and I wish you the best of luck!

Email Ericsmom if you want a heads up about what the audition is about. Eric did it in Sept. Best to ya!

I've already gotten on that;) But thanks for the advice:)

Melsmom - Wonderful news for Mel!!! I'm so happy for her and for you. Eric is very impressed with the Point Park dance program and really liked the teacher that did the jazz dance at the musical theatre audition.

Okay - out of hiding I'll come. Yes, Eric did his first audition 9/23 at Point Park for musical theatre. He very much wants me to keep private about all this, but it really is very exciting. I can't promise that I'll share more for awhile since he really doesn't want me to. I'll be glad to share the experience in e-mails if you want to write me, but everything was very impressive and positive.

Mel did the dance audition one week later. I'm wondering if we'll hear from the conservatory early next week. We're on pins and needles waiting. Mel got her academic acceptance about a week ago, and Eric's academic acceptance came the next mail day (Tues. after the Columbus Day holiday). We do live farther away, and our mail may be slower. Today he got one envelope from PPU that had 2 scholarship letters - a relatively large academic scholarship and a smaller community service and leadership award. I'm assuming if one is accepted into the conservatory with talent money that the talent award comes in the envelope with the acceptance. Melsmom - were your other 2 together in one envelope and the talent money in with the dance acceptance envelope? I also think I read that if one receives both of these awards (academic and community service) that they might be invited to interview for a presidential scholarship, but such was not mentioned in today's mail.

Ericsmom

Oops, sorry if I "outed" you, I wasn't thinking that you may not have wanted anyone to know Eric auditioned.

The talent scholarship was in the conservatory of performing arts envelope, the others in the admission envelope. I believe we were told that they take approx 60 dancers, Mel thinks she heard per discipline (I was helping her with the paperwork so she could listen, so I wasn't really hearing). I don't know how many are accepted into MT, but am sure he'll hear by weeks end... It's unfortunate they couldn't come on the same day! Fingers crossed :)

Thanks to all the well wishers!

When we visited PPU this summer, I believe they told us they accept 100+ into the MT program. I can't remember exactly, but it was in that magnatude. Much larger than most other top schools.

My D auditions December 9th.
