CONGRATS TO MELSMOM'S DAUGHTER!! That is wonderful news. Sure helps going into the audition season to know she has an option in the bag that she likes.

I hope this is the start of more positive news from the CC parent/student "family"!

For their auditions I noticed people have said theirs are at different times, like 3 for example- does anyone know if there's a way to pick your time, or do they just basically schedule you when they can fit you in? Thanks!

On the first Point Park audition date, there was an information session followed by a tour. At about 3, the parents and kids were separated. Parents mostly went to the cafe to hang out. Kids went as a group to audition (one at a time). I do not know how that order was determined, but it was not assigned ahead. I was told they were waiting in a room with a piano where they could warm up, but they were together warming up. I understand that they all did song and monologue audition, and then the whole group did the dance audition, which was last. They finished at about 5:30. This was a small group, so it may be different when the auditions have more people.

Ericsmom, as you know we are all excited for him as well. What a way to go into the audition season! Here's to more positive news as the season progresses......
Susan

Thanks, Susan and Chris, I can't tell you how good it feels. He's on cloud nine tonight! The combined scholarships also made him feel very good (helps his parents too!!!).

Congrats to Eric! Business acquaintance of mine had a child grad from PP last Spring and is dancing in Chicago[the city] with their first production. Many more best wishes and acceptances!

Now it's getting exciting!! Excellent news for Mel and Eric (and their Moms too).

I'm curious as to your reaction to the academic side of PPU. At a first glance, I had concern about the apparently lower academics. Now, upon reviewing my Ss situation again it seems he may need some academic safeties. Wondering if it even matters if the BFA program is good. What do you think??

Reminder: when auditioning for MT at PP, you're auditioning for the BA (Theater arts with concentration in MT) program. Only after freshman year are you considered for the BFA in MT.

"Bachelor of Fine Arts
The University also offers those students who, in judgement of the faculty, have the potential to succeed in professional theatre may pursue the Bachelor of Fine Arts degree program after completion of the first year."

The academic issue would be a personal decision. The good musical theatre schools vary tremendously in terms of academic ranking and even in terms of how many classes outside of the conservatory are taken. It all depends on what is important to you. My son likes all the schools and programs for which he is auditioning.

PPU offers an honors program. A dance student we know went there over some of the other conservatories because of the liberal arts education that PPU requires, so she chose it for academics over a couple of other very good dance schools.
