I am taking my son down to Clemson for our 1st visit (from NY) this Th & Fri. He has been accepted into engineering & Honors College. He will probably be deciding between Clemson & Univ of Miami (FL) to attend. Anyone have any tips on what to see & do? I'm hoping this will be a positive experience for him. He registered for the campus tour, but the Friday tour of engineering was booked (not sure if they will let us squeeze in). Thanks for your help!

I would think if they accepted him into the Honors College they would be very accomodating for a visit. Perhaps you could phone the Honors Coordinator - I am sure they will want to make the best impression possible by making room on the tour or perhaps arrange a personal tour?

After a planned visit to Furman for an open-house, we decided to stop in at Clemson for a visit. We basically just took the tour, ate in the dining hall, talked to students and walked around the campus. Even though Clemson is larger than the other schools he was interested in, it caught his interest and he decided to apply. He was accepted with an in-state tuition and merit scholarship and also was accepted into the Honors College. We know very little about the Honors College, aside from the official literature. I would specifically ask about the Honors College - is it just a lure to get top students by giving them early registration and a few honors sections? See if you can talk to some of the Honors students.

I'd be interested to hear about your visit - best wishes!

PA Mom & bethel - thanks for the advice! I emailed the honors college office and asked if he could speak to someone about it. Hopefully we'll hear back. Our situation sounds similar to yours, bethel. In additiion to honors, son recieved waiver of out-of-state tuition differential and a couple of small scholarships. Makes Clemson very affordable (about the same as our state schools, but hopefully much nicer). I'll let you know about our visit!
