My son received his package to USNA. He has been chasing around trying to get somebody to sign off on his Police Record Check. We live in Tarrant County, Texas. He's been given the run around by three different agencies. The local police department recommend him to the Department of Public Safety; the DPS referred him to an office in far East Dallas County; and for his police record he has to take the form to Austin, TX.
He's taken the form and the letter with the directions to these people but nobody wants to sign on the dotted line. Can anybody help us here?
Thanks!

It seems some jurisdictions just seem to make it hard on folks. I think I would try to find someone who knows an elected official that can cut some of the red tape for you. My Dad knows the mayor of our town. He gave him a call and I walked in handed it to the Chief of Police and he said he would send it out that day. Sometimes walking in "cold" on these folks gets you the cold shoulder. Do you know any law enforcement officers, anything to get you in the door. They really should be more helpful, especially in light of the nature of the request. I hope it works out for you.

My son had the day off school, so I thought he could take care of this for USMA....he too, received the royal run-around...what a pain! Maybe another day will have better luck. At least he knows where to go now. The county police sent him to the city police, which sent him to the old city hall annex building...which takes very long lunches....arg!!!

I am from fort worth....just take the form to the county courthouse in downtown FW and they will sign it for you. I cant remember exactly where but there is an office that handles background checks specifically...

Thank you Frijoles! Will do. That takes care of one of our forms. Our problem is that we live in one of the suburbs and our PD is not as willing to sign the police record form.

not a problem....if I recall the FWPD wouldnt either, but the people were pretty helpful at the county courthouse

We had a good experience with our local police department today getting the police record check completed. Thanks to advice on CC, I made some contacts and placed a call in advance. The office didn't even charge us the usual $6 fee. BUT, we barely avoided a minor disaster.

After walking out of the office, my son glanced over a copy of his form which they had given him. The secretary/dispatcher had accidentally checked the boxes which indicated "YES," he DOES have a police/juvenile record and "YES," he IS the subject of a criminal court action. An "about face" and a very gently handled inquiry resulted in retrieval of the already sealed and posted letter from the mail. It was reopened, corrected, and sent on its way to USNA.

Whew! No telling how much grief that might have caused!

I lived in Houston until I was 12, a suburb of Dallas until I was 16, and now Lufkin.

Do I need to send a Police Report to the Police Department of the town I lived in near Dallas too?

Thanks to Frijoles we were successful in getting our Police Record form filled out. The key is to ask for the "Records Department". The Fort Worth Police Department were very accommodating and filled out the form without charge for our Naval Academy Appointee. Our second form was filled out by our hometown police records department at no charge and a "Congratulations and Good Luck" to our cadet.

Our mistake in our initial outting to get the forms filled was to ask the person at the "Information" window.

Good luck to all. See ya July 2nd!
