Polisci UCD vs UCI vs USC

I know that most people say that UCD and UCI rank about the same, but what about for the polisci major? And if you had to choose, would you choose UCD/UCI over USC?

Also is it true that it's easier to get good grades is UCD & UCI than USC?
I just came from overseas and I know very little about the whole school profile and things, so I'll really appreciate it if you can help me out. Thanks! :)

Oh! and I'm planning to go to lawschool.

Hmm I don’t know much about USC polisci but shldn’t UCD and UCI’s polisci program be about the same since they have the same rank? I don’t recommend UCD it smells like COW

USC in my opinion

Why do you say that? Help me out here

yes why? 10 char.

USC because of its prestige, faculty, and also it is a globally recognized institution compared to UCI and UCD.

ok but mjk0330 is asking which has a better polisci program/ ranks higher for polisci,
not which school is most prestigious. We all know USC is more prestigious than UCI and UCD

Yea… I searched for best undergrad polisci colleges and I can never find UCI, UCD and USC on them. Does anyone know the link? I’m really really in need of help!

It depends on what your interests are after pursuing poly sci at the undergrad level. If you hope for law school or any type of grad school, go for the cheapest option.

If you plan on working immediately following undergrad, I imagine USC’s name/connections/network will be an added asset.

FYI, I’m not sure what your interests are, but USC started a major and I guess they always had it as a minor in the past, that deals with law but through the philosophy department. It’s officially : “Philosophy (Ethics, Law and Value Theory)”

UCI has the best, then UCD, then USC (which is rank just as high as UCR)

Thanks everyone so much for the information!

Chibi_loopi, is ur source reliable? It seems like its the 2006-2007 rankings.
This is from the US News World Report and it says the UCD is by far a better school for polisci.

Oh and liek0806 I’m interested in Polisci, esp in IR. And yep I plan to go to law school as soon as i can after graduation, so I see how USC can be quite beneficial.
Thanks for the info! :)

mjk, the rankings u linked are for the graduate schools. a undergraduate program and it’s graduate program are totally different.

the rankings i provided are pretty accurate. all of the poli sci programs list them (especially CAL since CAL is pretty legit) on their poli sci site.

mjk, i tend to think of USC as being a more pre-professional school than the UCs, which I think most employers tend to prefer, after all most people are hired to do a job. which is why I advocate USC for majors that lead related fields of interest. If you were just interested in the subject, the UCs.

Oh ok i was told that if a grad prog is well known, then most likely its undergrad would be too but i guess it’s not true. I’m surprised UCI and UCD rank higher than USC

liek0806 thanks! I didn’t know that aspect about USC
wow u guys r better than my counselor…

UC’s are purely theory-based schools. That’s why an undergraduate degree isnt enough to hold weight in terms of finding a job.

Privates differentiate but the reason why USC is considered “so prestigious” by many people is because of the alumni connection. Tons of people who settle in LA went to USC. That doesn’t necessarily mean that USC is better than the UC’s. From what I heard, a USC undergraduate tend to be very under-prepared which is why they advise most of these kids to go to graduate school. And as evident by the ranking, that statement must hold some sort of weight.

Regardless, undergraduate ranking shouldnt matter that much considering the fact that we all plan on going to graduate school anyways.

Oh come on. If u worked in admissions @ say columbia law school,
who will u pick:

There are 3 kids
One’s from USC majoring in polisci
One’s from UCI majoring in polisci
One’s from UCD majoring in polisci
They all have the same gpa and same LSAT scores

my point: undergrad matters nxt to ur gpa and LSAT scores.
Think carefully mjk
