Political Communication and transferring

Hi,

I will be entering my sophomore year of college this fall, however, I have been looking into transferring to GWU for my junior and senior years.

I was was wondering if anyone had information about the political communications major, which is part of the school of media and public affairs? Political communications seems really interesting and I would love to transfer into it. ( I am currently studying advertising and marketing communications) If anyone knows about the classes, professors, or success after college I would love to hear about it.

I am part of my schools Phi Theta Kappa honor society, and I was really impressed with the $7,500 scholarship that GWU offers Phi Theta Kappa members. Have any transfers actually received this scholarship? (I would only be able to attend GWU if I was offered some form of scholarship or financial aid).

Also, Greek life seems like a great way to meet students, especially as a transfer student. Would it be possible for a junior transfer to rush?

Thanks!

I doubt rush would be good for a junior/senior. I have friends who were turned down as sophomores. A lot of greek groups frown on upperclassmen joining. That’s not to say that none will take you. Besides, greek isn’t that big at GW anyway.

Financial aid? 7500 is all good and jolly, but what about the other… tens of thousands? $7500 out of $50,000 (tuition + living) is nothing. Find financial aid first, and fast- don’t transfer and expect to receive it afterwards. I didn’t get one red cent in financial aid, and I went there every year. If I were you, I wouldn’t go if you had to cough up more than $10,000 a year.

Political communicaition- fine program, good professors. In SMPA. Nice building. Requires a lot of group and individual projects. Requires a lot of labs and hands on,… will take a lot of required classes and effort to receive. Not a particularly popular major. What do you plan to do with the major, and what are the odds of it landing a job after graduation?
