Well uh, the Israeli occupation of Palestine IS legitimate...and Israeli's constantly have to take care of the safety of Palestinians because, unlike PLO, Israel is a recognized governing body that wants to adhere to world governing standards, while in the past most Palestinians showed no such restraints

(I'm not against the Israeli's or Palestinians, just telling things how I see it)

And this is becoming a political discussion itself ha

No one says Israel is completely innocent.
Even being an Israeli myself, I admit that in some incidences Israeli officers were reckless during operations in the palestinian territories. For instance, on one ocassion a riot erupted and IDF soldiers opened fire (mistakebly) on a group of pals that was not part of the riot, leaving several dead.

But first of all, everyone, anti Israeli or pro Israeli, needs to understand why Israel is in the territories. We all know the 1967 story, but the bottom line is that Israel is under CONSTANT threat, a threat that no American can understand. If 20-30 miles from your home town were terrorists armed with missles that can strike at any moment, then I am quit e sure you wouldn't have opposed to the occupation. These numbers might seem shocking, but they are absolutely true.

people don't realize how tiny Israel is. Tel Aviv is 20 miles from the west bank and 30 miles from Gaza.
Therefore, in order to defend its citizens, Israel has to remain in the territories and keep these terror groups at bay. That is also why Israel needs the security fence. Israel does not enjoy sending its youth to be killed in operations there. And it certainly doe snot enjoy the international media attacks.

And for all those who idiotically label Israel (Sharon in particular) as a nation of terrorists, all the palestinian deaths in the territories are 95% the fault of the pals themselves! When the IDF comes in after an attack in search for a terrorist leader, immediately swarms of pal rioters come in (with children in the fron - for the cameras ofcourse!),
thus forcing the Israeli soldiers to defend their lives. And the result, a dozen pal deaths, which everyone stupidly interprets to be the product of the Israeli thrist for blood. common....

Israel has offered peace time and time again, only to be spat in teh face by the palestinians and theur leadership. When barak offered 97% of the territories in 1998, why did the pal leadership say no??? why?

BECAUSE - they DO NOT WANT PEACE, THEY WANT THE JEWS OUT! OUT OF ALL OF ISRAEL!

I thought you two were feverishly anti-Israel?
where are your come backs now? Or have I actually succeeded in convincing you that Israel is the just side?

Sorry, I left work, lol. But orrican, your latest post sounds very different from your previous ones. Thanks for your perspective. I'm not anti-Israel, but in tense situations, like the one in the Middle East with Israel, things get hairy. The Israeli-Palestinian conflict is very complex, and Israel's feeling of always being threatened has made it heavy handed at times. It's just that peaceful Palestinians need a place for themselves, where they can participate in their government, and vote for those who govern their land.

I completely agree. The Palestinians should indeed have their own state. And that is percisely why Israel is disengaging from the territories (from gaza this summer, West bank next year) - despite the immense internal opposition.

However, this is only the first step for peace. The next step must be made by both the Palestinian leadership and people - they simply MUST put a stop to terrorism, and they can. If the population rises up against groups like Hammas or Islamic Jihad, and Abbas coordinates attacks against these groups, surely, terror will be defeated in this area and the pals will have their own state.

Sadly, however, the pals have yet to do this....
and peace cannot be acheived when only one side works for it.

And no, I am not anti-Israel. I repect them for their rich, jewish culture which is very difficult to find in the United States. Research shows that Jews have better relations with Muslims that with Christians, so there you go! Muslims and Jews have alot in common in terms of religious beliefs.

yes, but papajohns, from what you say it is very easily established that you view Israel to be more responsilble for the conflict than the pals are ... that's what I call anti-Israeli

I do not feel that Arabs should be labelled as "terrorists" will Israel be admires as a "democracy" while facts clearly show that they are terrorists themselves also.

What, havent I given a long enough post on Sharon?! Just because you fail to prove me wrong doesnt mean that Israel isnt a state of terrorist. Why dont you accept this fact. No way can you rebound my arguments ;)
Sorry, looks like you lose.
