Political Science and Economics programs at UVA - how are they regarded in the real world?

Hello, I have been accepted to UVA as a third year transfer student. My plan is either to double-major in Government and Economics or major in Government and minor in Economics. After UVA, I would like to go to a law school or get a Phd in political science or poltical economy.

How well are the undergraduate degrees at UVA regarded in the real world?

Government major is known for having huge classes – hundreds of people in an intro lecture, for example. Thus,k William and Mary would be regarded more highly since students get a lot more personal attention and mentoring.

The Batten Public Policy major has smaller classes at UVa, but you need to apply for entry during your second year. I don’t know how they handle transfers.

If you look at courseforum.com, you will see that UVa students rate the Politics Dept. profs very highly, on the average. The main problem is that UVa needs more of them.

Here’s an update on the Batten School. They just hired a new dean from U. of Michigan’s Ford School of Public Policy. There are now 14 full time profs for 280 students, plus affiliated profs from around the University.
