I want to major in Political Science, and I was wondering about the quality of the program. Also, what is it like to be a humanities/social science major? Are the departments large enough? is there a variety of classes? Any info would help a lot,
Thanks

A lot of the poli sci professiors have been nominated for teaching awards and are quite popular- supposedly good lectureres. JHU is one of the leading universities for Political Theory which is a very intellectual branch of poli sci. Course offerings are broad. Some SAIS professors come to the Baltimore campus to teach undergrad classes and JHU has a new gov center in DC where undergrads can study. There is no foreign language or economics requirements for poli sci majors, the way there are for International Studies majors. The lack of a core curriculum allows poli sci majors freedom to take several courses from many different departments and it's easy to minor or double major in a different subject.

I'm a PoliSci/Econ double major, after I decided to get out of IR b/c I hate learning languages (and suck at it as well). Reputation aside, because I don't know much about that, the PoliSci Dept. is definetley awesome, and the professors are considered some of the best on campus. There's a large variety of courses, and I know that every semester I have about 4-5 PoliSci courses I want to take, where I only end up taking 2 (you need 13 to graduate, 6 of which ahve to be in specfic fields, like 1 IntlReal, 1 AmericanPol, 2 PolTheory, and 2 CompGov), so you have a ton of variety and can tailor your courses to whatever you want. Depending on the AP credit you come in with, and the courses you take Freshman year, you can be done with all non-social science/humanities courses by the time your in your 2nd year here, so you get to focus on what you love.
