Political Science at UT-Austin.

Hey everyone.

I hung up with someone from the Department of Government at UT a few hours ago and I was perplexed for them to tell me that UT does not have a "Political Science" Major, and that if I wanted something as close to Political Science as possible, that UT had Government to offer.

Is this true or did I misunderstand? If it is true, how is it that UNT and Rice both have Political Science departments and UT doesn't?

If anyone is in either of these departments, please help me clarify as I was looking forward to Poly Sci as my main major, and Psychology B.A. as my secondary as I'm planning on going to Law School.

Thank You,
Dr. Scientist.

Yes, it’s true that UT doesn’t have a Political Science major. What they have is a Government major. It’s basically the same thing but with a different name. Your majors would be Government and Psychology.

If you plan on going to law school, you don’t need and Government/Political Science major. It really doesn’t help in anyway. You can major in what ever you want.

Thanks for the reply.

I realize I can do any major, but Political Science interests me, especially so because I’ve been a debater all throughout high school.

Thanks for the input though, I’ll look more into it.
