I'd basically like to know what the requirements are to get accepted. Is political science admission very competitive?

Thank you for your help

Yes it is competitive for the political science program, it is a limited access program.

The requirements are,
Overall 2.0 UFGPA & Prerequsite 3.0 UFGPA
Complete 3 of 4 political science critical-tracking courses;

Aim for the Highest overall GPA as well as your pre-requisite GPA!

Good luck!

@kscool. So say I have a 3.5 on my prereqs. And a 3.2 overall. What do you think my chances would be?
Thank you very much for the response

If you’re coming in with an AA from a Florida Public State College, good standing at your institution, meet UF’s recalculated GPA requirements (which you do), you should have a decent shot.

One suggestion I have is to bring up your gpas (overall&prereq), because I have seen transfers be admitted with mostly 3.7-4.0 GPA. Again, it’s competitive.

This may not be a requirement but also having extra-curriculars, by it being a limited and competitve program, I’m sure your ECs won’t hurt you.

With that being said, you’re on the right track, how many prereqs have you successfully completed so far & have you retaken any of them?

I am currently enrolled at MDC. I have taken sta2023 and pos2041 only once each with an A in both. I am a business major at the moment, the reason I am thinking of switching to Political Science is because I enjoy that field of study a lot more. Also, I heard acceptance into Warrington is very very hard. Now that I am hearing from you that Political Science is limited access it’s kinda scaring me lol.

Lol, don’t the stats scare you, but prepare you! And Warrington is currently a guaranteed admission school at UF, lol, many prereqs to complete but on the web site it states…

“ALL transfer applicants who meet the following admission requirements will be admitted to the School of Business” –Warrington College

By the way, MDC is Miami Dade College right?

Yeah I had one problem. One of the preprofessional courses eco2023 I took when I first started mdc. I took it twice and did horrible both times so now I have to take it a third time. My record when I first started college was not great at all I had a lot of things come down on me my first couple semesters that affected my capability of performing at a high level. That being said, I heard the calculate all the times you have taken a course if it is part of the preprofs required. I am scared that that will affect my chances drastically.

I understand. I would contact Warrington’s Transfer Admissions Coordinator to see if you can be admissible as long as your recalculated gpa (overall&prepreqs) meet their requirement.

However, if your new passion is political science, you can always just go for that. I didn’t want to make it seem impossible, because I’m sure some have been admitted with the same stats as you and possibly lower. It’s just good to know your stand in the applicant pool.

View the following UF transfer threads. Maybe you can find someone with a similar situation or hopes for transferring to UF for political science & business administration.

Yeah I have some decisions to make lol. I’ll definitely give them a call. Do you think I should do it around the time I am applying or right now? I still have about two more semesters before I get my AA

Thank you for all the help

No problem. And you could contact them now so therefore if they tell you your chances are slim you can just go for political science.
