I am in a difficult situation right now. I left my community college with a 3.26 GPA, and went to a private university and was dealing with some medical issues and ended the semester with a 1.5 GPA. I am a political science major, and want to apply to UF. I am currently right now back at my community college taking a couple classes. What do you think I should do improve my chances?
Apply to UF as normal (after meeting UF’s requirements for CC transfer students). The poor grades at the private university could hurt your chances at UF’s more selective programs. Your chances are really based on what college/program you will be trying to join. You will need to research your intended major(s) for the requirements.
For example, here are the requirements for two majors in CLAS (college of liberal arts and sciences):
If applying to English, you would need to make sure you have a 2.5 GPA on all attempts on the two English courses.
Now, a much more competitive major:
Note the much higher GPA requirements, and that you must have a B or better on first attempts. If you had a C or D on any of these courses, while at the private college, you wouldn’t be able to apply for this major.
I have a 4.0 in the prereq Political Science courses, I didn’t take any political science classes at the private university, but I only went there for one semester.
