Political Science vs Political Science for Pre-Law

I am currently a high school senior and am about to go to university as an undergrad. I am planning on majoring in either political science or political science for pre-law. I want to attend a rigorous law school in the future and be well prepared so I want to choose the best major for that. I would like to know which one would be better to major in. I am hesitant about the pre-law major because most people reccomend not majoring in that.

It does not matter what you major in. What matters is your academic performance, your ability to think, your ability to write, and your ability to ace the LSAT. Frankly, I think prospective law students (you may well change your career goals in college) would be better off majoring in engineering, computer science, or economics – which could give them a leg up in the actual practice of law down the road.

You mean political science vs. pre-law? (Not political science vs. political science?)

Do not major in pre-law, period–few if any successful applicants to top law schools do that. Otherwise, political science is fine; be sure that you get lots of As and good recommendations from at least 1 or 2 professors.

Major in whatever will give you the best GPA. Law schools don’t otherwise care. Definitely take the opportunity to go work in a law office over the summer (or do an externship during the year) to see what the practice of law is actually like.
