As a point of clarification, I suspect that most people are not using admissions rates as part of their definitions of the term, but what they suspect the student’s chances of admittance would be. Of course, a school’s overall admissions rate will influence the likelihood, but a student’s chances might be greater or lower than the school’s admissions rate due to other factors (higher/lower GPA or test scores, particular hooks, etc).
