this is just one huge ego-boost thread.

There's a sophomore at our school taking AP Calculus.

A sophomore! Urgh!

But she was homeschooled.

7th grade-Pre Algebra
8th-Algebra
9th-Geometry
10th-Algebra II
11th-Trig/PreCal
12th-(I most-likely will be taking) Calc/AP Calc

7th- pre-algebra
8th- algebra I
9th- geometry
summer of 9th- alg. 2 & trig
10th- precalc
11th- ap stat
12th- ap calc bc

7th - I might have taken accelerated math. I can't remember if it was different or not.
8th - Algebra I Honors
9th - Geometry Honors
10th - Algebra II Honors (I had a HORRIBLE teacher; I learned nothing)
11th - Trig/Precalc Honors
12th - AP Calc AB (I currently have a grand total of 41% in this class. Go me!)

I hate math. I don't know why I took a fifth year. Masochism.

6th grade - Regular Math
7th grade - Pre-Algebra Honors
8th grade - Algebra I Honors
9th grade - Geometry Honors
10th grade - Accelerated Algebra II / Pre-Calculus Honors
11th grade - AP Calculus BC (skipped AB)

left high school after 11th grade.

6th Grade: Just came to US, 2 months left in school year, Teacher forced me to transfer to Math B (which was higher)
7th Grade: Algebra
8th Grade: Geometry
9th Grade: Currently doing AAF (IB Equivalent of Algebra II)
I'll either be taking IB Pre-Calc or IB Math Studies (Math Studies is a tad lower than IB Pre-Calc) in 10th.

I feel sorry for those who have to take a year of Algebra II(8), a year of Pre-Calculus(9), a year of AP Calculus AB (10), a year of AP Calculus BC (11), and a year of AP Statistics (12). So far ahead in the beginning, and then they lose their edge by the time they enter college.

Pre-Calculus: review of Algebra II
And then AP Statistics and AP Calc BC aren't worth full years.

(and it's the standard curriculum for those at Garfield High School in Seattle, if they don't get EPGY courses). A LOT of people at Garfield take Calculus in 10th grade, yet they aren't that brilliant in math. It doesn't seem as prevalent as I originally thought though. Still, a lot of people have wasted time on BC after AB + Pre-Calc after Algebra II.

(and no, I didn't go to Garfield - I just know a lot of people there from an early entrance program).

The other problem is that even though EPGY is a good alternative, it splits multivariable calculus into two, even though those chapters are only a few more in a single textbook.

Exactly, and that's why Im taking MVC/LA/DE as an integrated sequence because my school was too lazy to put me in MVC at the local community college this year. However, I should be finished by June, which means I will have several options for next year. The only problem is...I was considering real/complex analysis but I don't know any nearby schools that offer it.

Wow, some of you guys are crazy. :D I'd like to PM a few of you about some things. I hope you don't mind.

8th algebra 1
9th geometry
summer algebra 2
10th pre cal
11th calc bc
12th multivariable/linear algebra

7th algebra 1
8th geometry
9th advanced algebra w/ trig
10th pre calc
11th AP Calc BC
12th AP Stats (this is a total waste of a year)

7- Algebra I (we didn't have Honors/Regulars)
8- Geometry (ditto)
9- Honors Algebra II/Trig
10- Honors Geometry (grade school class wasn't proof-intensive enough, plus instead of a placement exam the teacher just gave me the final from the previous year, which having never had a class with her I had no idea how to take)
11- Honors Precal
12- AP Calc BC (chose not to take AP Stat because the teacher gives an amount of work disproportionate to the difficulty of Stat)

7th - PreAlgebra
8th - Algebra 1
9th - Geometry Honors
Algebra 2 Honors
-- projected --
10th- Precalculus Honors
11th- Calculus AB AP
Calculus BC AP
12th- Calculus 3

6th - worthless class
7th - worthless class
8th - semi-worthless class; +1 year ahead
9th - advanced geometry and advanced algebra 2; +2 years ahead
10th - advanced worthless class; +2 years ahead
11th - Calc AB (self-study BC); +2 years ahead
12th (projected) - Calc III/Linear Algebra and Advanced Geometry (really advanced, not the freshman class all over again)/Advanced Math Concepts (or something like that); +3-4 years ahead

I'm sure I could have handled Algebra I in 6th grade, instead of learning 12 * 11 = 132 all over again. I wasn't allowed to skip that worthless class my sophomore year... but I guess it solidified my knowledge of conic sections.

7th: Pre-Algebra
8th: Algebra
9th: Geometry
10th: Algebra 2
11th: Trig/Precalculus
12th: Calc AB

6 ~ 8: stupid worthless foreign taiwanese math classes that my school doesn't recognize.

9: Alg 1
10: Geometry
11: Alg 2
12: Precalc/Trig

Two things you said are strange. First that AP Calc BC is not worth a year. It IS worth a year. There's so much to learn.

And you were right when you said that MANY people take advanced math classes ALTHOUGH they AREN'T PREPARED FOR IT. Just thanks for saying that.

What is AP Calc BC, exactly? Is it basically multivariable calculus?

Multivariable Calculus typically comes after AP Calculus BC. You can find the BC course description here.

7th grade-pre-algebra

9th grade: geometry
10th grade: algebra 2 and precalc
planning to learn AP Calculus 1,AB, and BC during the summer to help me out in next year's math/ science class- AP Physics C
